An amazing BBB! Perfect drive over and back with just a little crosswind to keep it interesting. No issues at all with my bus or Dave's, just put gas in and watch the odometers spin! The weather both days was excellent with highs around 70F and little if any wind.
We arrived midday Friday and the place was already packed. The larger turnout and loss of beach camping pushed new folks into the "backwater" that STB and VW Friends have been occupying for the last few years. Luckily, there was just enough room for our two buses and everyone made do with the tighter accommodations. I was disappointed to see some large empty areas roped off even late on Saturday. Not cool, guys!
I missed out on a balloon ride since the winds picked up, but managed to get some pictures of the Panda looming over the showmobile. The balloon ascension the next morning was great fun to watch too.
Walter and Big Red provided great entertainment and it was good to see an actual VW dealer showing up with some wares. Ever notice how the New New Beetle looks a lot like those early streamlined German advertising drawings of the original beetle?
We enjoyed putting on the CV Grand Prix again this year, with the winner being quick enough that I suspect some practicing has been going on. The standard has definitely been set!
My tickets weren't very hot for the raffles, but I did manage to score a part that actually fit my bus: Pedal rubbers! My buddy Dave won the bus portrait and set off to have the artist immediately photograph his bus so he could get the portrait done. Still, I'm looking forward to the tally to see how much the kids are getting this year. I bet it will be a record!
I'd like to thank the LBB for putting this event on. It is definitely the class act in VW camping events and their hard work makes it run like a clock! |

Funny; I was calling it "Vanagon Village".
Anyway, I stayed down at Cattail Cove Wednesday night, so I could do a little kayaking (and fill the water tank ):
(Only VW there )
Arrived Thursday, fortunate enough to get prime real estate:
Saturday, the panda arrived:
...and, so did the wind (and life-sized Jenga):
cvbill, always working on his van (and only Vanagon owner to get a Top 20 award!):
Sunday, balloons galore:
Packed up, ready to leave:
Stayed across the canal at my cousin's condo (at, not in; the place reeked!). Woke up Monday morning to a balloon making a mess out of my van thanks to it flying directly overhead after doing a lake-dip. Also saw these:
Yes, ^balloon landed on a boat!
And, of course, here are this year's panoramas (click to enlarge):
Fun time ~ thanks, LBB! Nice to put faces to a few usernames and to see so many different Buses! Only disappointments: 1) Not coming home with that awesome fire pit ; 2) coming home with a leaking rear heater. _________________ ~Kamz

Made it back safe and sound on Monday morning.
Thanks to Brickhaus and Alan for letting me convoy with them from Ludlow to Barstow.
I hope John and Ronnie post the attendance figures, revenue, etc. soon. But let's give 'em a little time to recuperate first! _________________ -- JLT

Just shaking out the cobwebs after my first four 12 hour nightshifts that started 2 hours after I landed in Portland last Tuesday. Another incredible year at BBB. Thanks to London Bridge Bullis for good time as always.
I wanted to make certain to post LOTS OF VANAGON CONTENT for Ivan, Sweet PyRoMaN who could not attend this year. Happy birthday Ivan
You mean to tell me I have to walk 500 yards out of this fancy, "HOST HOTEL", with balloons right outside my window waking my ass up, for my first bloody mary???????
Oh, thats right, I have the fixins' right here in my suite
Prior to priming the pump!
Props and thanks to Loren Busch of WetWesties for these epic pictures
I finally have a new screensaver which is a major compliment as my current screensaver is a shot of our trip last spring to Moab which made the GoWesty 2013 calendar.
(this will enlarge if you click on it)
$20 raffle ticket yielded me a big winner for the second year in a row. I sat right next to CVBill who took an award for the 4th straight year.
Syncro Representin'
I Won the $250 transmission rebuild credit and two others and did some horse trading with Draginink
Just what I needed, a suitcase load of t-shirts I lightened the load considerably with some selective gifting so I could still carry on my baggage on the flight home.
Rubberchickens are a hoot.
Brother Daryl from AA Transaxle
Syncronicity, Tom Juanita and Iggy were a hoot. Shadetreetim is a great guy, Salim from CountryHomes, DLJ...damn I wish I could remember all the names. Well, at least I immortalized our 50,000 watt music experience on top of Walter on Friday night...... I sure hate hearing myself speak, but, if you have never experienced what it is like being on top of a 50,000 watt speaker with built in light show, here you go.
Click on the Dark Picture to Play Video
(warning:turn your volume down and I am sorry in advance)
I DARE YOU TO POST THE PANCAKE SONG, Tom
This one almost slipped past me. I missed talking to these folks and getting a peak inside. What a beautiful van.
Balloons taking off right outside my Host Hotel window.
Walter's little brother Big Red was awesome and one of my favorites.
My Mom had an incredible time.
Denise, the bloody mary was exceptional as always.
The white sand beaches are awesome. Some of the early arrivers got the only prime white sand real estate.
The Havalina habitat being removed really opened up the park.
One of these days I will drive one of my VW's to this event I promise.
Great jam around the HBB campfire. Always a hoot! Great to see Owen.
Anyways, here is a link to my whole album of 181 pics....Hmmmm, that number could be telling me something
http://s830.beta.photobucket.com/user/carterzest/library/BBBXVII
Grrrr. I added some sort of effect onto the video so some of the pics blurred out.
Link
Added a few pics at the end of the video of my visit to Lunde's Peoria VW.
They almost bought my 57 SCab this past year and I had to stop and look at the 69 DC which they bought for their advertising campaign.
Damn, my SCab could have been on all of their advertising.
I want the 74 Aculpulco Thing they have there. Minty fresh!
Here is a link to some pics of their dealership. Top dealership in the USA for the 2nd year. Incredible place and they will be bringing their event trailer and a few Dubs to next years BBtB. Stop in and see this place if you are ever stopping through. It is one of 8 dealerships that VWoA has as a test balloon, embracing the ACVW community, something that has not happened for decades and I think is AWESOME.
BTW, Props to San Tan VW for doing the same thing. The new improved VW ROCKS!!!!!!
IT IS ABOUT TIME. Thank you!

Gave the Marketing Manager your info Draginink He loves your designs and got a Shasta Snow Trip 09 shirt. He gave me a Lunde's Peoria VW t-shirt back. _________________ Happiness=Portland, Oregon in the rearview mirror!

Finally home after an 11 day BBB trip! That was by far the biggest and best BBB ever! We drove 1000+ miles this week and went from BBB to Venice Beach, San Diego, Salton Sea and everywhere in between all in the bus. Spent last night in Havasu at Doug's house and having Ronnie help us with a stripped axle nut. Ending our adventure kayaking the Colorado River. It was weird to only have 1 bus at the Bridge instead of hundreds. It just wasn't the same, but amazing none the less. Thanks so much to the LBB for throwing a great event and thanks to all the friends who make it so much fun. I also want to say thank you for the Stainless Steel Coffee Pot trophy for "Top 20". I personally think there were way cooler buses than mine there but I am flattered none the less. The trophy is up on the fireplace mantle right next to Jimmy's Air Force retirement flag. Can't wait till next year!!! Thanks again everyone! A special thanks to Big Bus Mike for suprising me with a frame for my Thing, and asking me to save a spot for some mystery camper that ended up being KevinMC that almost made me cry seeing him parked next to my bus. I love the VW family!!!! _________________ 66 Deluxe 13 window

The panda trying to eat buses!!!
I didn't take many pics....in fact the ones of my bus I stole from friends on Facebook. My black and white striped awning came from Sheila out of Prescott and she has tons of fabrics for $80! If you like it let me know and I will get you her info. She does great work!! _________________ 66 Deluxe 13 window
