'85 Westfalia: The fridge does not get 12v power from the ignition switch circuit ( the red/blk wire shows no voltage right where it connects to the ignition- with the key on).
Any reason why I can't connect that lead to another wire at the fuse block that goes live while running? (While I wait for new ignition switch). Thanks

I think you have some things confused. The red/black wire on the ignition switch is for the starter, not ignition on. The fridge relay uses it for a ground for the relay coil, believe it or not. Since it isn't really ground it has an additional purpose. The fridge relay coil gets power to turn on the relay from the blue wire from the alternator led circuit, whenever the engine is running. The red/black "ground" connection acts as a safety precaution as the "ground" goes away during cranking so the fridge can't pull power from the battery while you are trying to start.

Ooooh. So the blue wire allows the 12v to pass through the relay under the driver's seat ? Where does the blue wire originate that ground?

Yes, the blue wire is what turns on the fridge relay. It comes from the alternator warning light circuit. When the alternator is charging the alternator puts 12 volts on that blue wire. The red/black is the "ground".
