I noticed the other day my beauty ring had creeped almost an inch (2.54 cm) and was pushing the valve stem way over. I popped off the hubcap and realigned the ring but it creeped again after maybe 5 miles of city driving. Why is it creeping?

I don't know why they creep, but it is very annoying..... I used some double sided tape on the edge of the rim to stop them creeping, a couple of pieces an inch long was enough, but I could still get the rings off without damaging them. (replace the tape each time)

It happens a lot on hubcaps and trim rings. Bending out the.prongs slighty that hold it on, be they on the ring, or on the wheel, usually cures it. You might get by with just bending a few, strategically placed, but its best to bend them all out to about the same degree. I'll bet they won't come on and off as easy though after that...

For the later models, if some f00l has been using
a big, flat-bladed srewdriver to remove the hubcaps
then the inner circumference of the beauty ring gets
damaged. The result is the creep.

Sorry, but this annoys me. Evil or Very Mad
VW supplied a (stock) hubcap removal tool for a reason.

Ghiaaddict,
What is the best method to remove hub caps? Putting beauty rings on this weekend, want to do it right.

there are two holes on the side of the hub cap. There is a tool that sticks in these holes to grip the hub cap. You can probably make one from a metal clothes hanger. Bottom line, do not try to pry them off with a big screw driver.
