|
Just thought I'd say hello.
New to the forum and new to owning a 356 Speedster replica.
I live in Lees Summit, MO. USA
I purchased a Porsche 356 Speedster wide body replica early in April 2013 from an owner outside of St. Louis, MO.
I've been working on it since, had some issues that made it unsafe to drive.
The kit was a Fiber Fab, wide body. Engine case # AH377918 and Fiber Fab Model FS 1107, Identification # NM 110392 and looks to have been built in 1997. It's Black on Black.
The person I purchased the car from had zero information as to where the car came from, who owned it, anything about what motor is in the car, etc. or was not interested in passing that info. on.
If anyone know anything about this cars history, I'd welcome any information available.
Thanks

Roy, have you tried www.speedsterowners.com?
They have a pretty healthy community. |

I'm frequent poster on SOC. Great site - donate and you can access the full build manual there. You have their optional wide wheels. _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW T-Bucket Street Buggy |

Thanks everyone.
What I was hoping for, someone that owned this thing and could say: It has a XXXX cc engine.
I have the build manual, what I do not know and would like to know is the displacement for the motor.
The worst that can happen is, I'll pull the motor and find out for sure.

Either that or set one cylinder at BDC and back off its valve adjuster screws so they're absolutely closed and then screw a fitting with the correct threads into the cylinder spark plug hole. Next, connect a plastic hose to the fitting and and completely fill the cylinder and hose with oil (tilt the car sideways about 45 degrees to get all the air bubbles out).
Then rotate the crankshaft 180 degrees so the piston goes from BDC to TDC. Have a graduated cylinder handy of about 750cc and catch and collect every bit of oil that spills out of the hose. Then making sure the hose is still absolutely full, measure the amount of oil in the graduated cylinder and multiply it times four. That will tell you the exact displacement of your engine (if your rings are good).
If it was me though and knowing the displacement of my engine was important, I'd drop the engine and pull a head. |

I don't know why hobbyist builders don't keep a detailed build sheet. Wouldn't hurt to ask PO what's in it and does he have a box of receipts. Without receipt or a tear down - if dual port it is stock 1600 cc. _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW T-Bucket Street Buggy |

| The capacity of the engine doesn't really matter as long as you're happy with the performance. Service parts, plugs, points etc. will all be the same. The 'AH' engine code means that it started out as a 1600 dual port so that's what I'd insure it as because that's the number that they'd go by. |

Some service parts do change with modifications though. Many non-OEM heads take 3/4" reach vs 1/2" reach plugs or even the new smaller diameter plugs. A different distributor may take different points or rotor. Steel vs alloy push rods affect valve clearance settings (due to expansion differences). _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW T-Bucket Street Buggy |
