I'm running 1600 in a rail that currently has a pretty rusted up and cut up exhaust. What would you recomend for a exhaust set up? Ti-pi style with a stinger or what? |

I had a TeePee exhaust on my rail and it was a PIA to work on because the exhaust was always in the way and disassembly of the exhaust sucked. I went with a 4 into 1 with the collector that is held on with four springs, way more user friendly. _________________ 2006 RAM 1500 HEMI 4X4 92 LT250

Have any pictures of your set up? I'm just worried that a system like that won't clear the roll cage around the engine |

Couldn't find a photo of my current four into one, this is the exhaust I mounted prior to the one I am running now

Im running a Trimill Teepee and love it. Sounds awsome. It is a little harder to work on the engine, but only when hot. I can still get to wherever easily. I actually believe its alot easier to adjust the carb, and aceess the front of the engine alot easier than a regular J-tube setup with U-Bend.

If your running a 1600cc engine I will assume that its just a fun buggy, and not a full out race car. So...
Do what you like the look of, or what you think sounds cool.
Honestly, I think dual exhausts look sweet and sound awesome...I don't mind if they take a couple ponies off. They get bonus points for sweet looks and an awesome sound in my book...not to mention they are mostly out of the way so it is easy to work on the engine.
If your a power hungry monster, then by all means, go for the 4 into 1 headers. They will gain you a couple ponies. Lets be honest, on a stock engine, the difference is really only noticeable to the driver of the vehicle lower in the rpm range.
Alright, it's time to shield my face from the all crap horsepower junkies will start throwing at me _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

I like my duals. Plus I run a single carb. So I need preheat, I think the four into one theory is probably blown using preheat tubes. I've seen a couple setups, but they weren't impressive enough to make me want to ditch what I have.

What if you were running a 2110 with dual IDFs on the street. Would there be a major loss then? A 4 into 2 would look so much better for what I'm doing, but I don't want to waste a lot of gas and power. Frankly, a 4 into 4 would look even better _________________ Rocco- my build thread

Yes, that would be silly to run dual exhausts when you build a motor for power. They make dual carburetors very hard to tune because of the uneven scavenging effect. A proper 4 into 1 header will let you maximize your dual carburetors performance. Good scavenging goes a long ways towards engine performance. If you have invested lots of money into building a large motor for power, dual exhausts are not for you.

I'm with you on the looks. I love the looks of duals. The sound is also fantastic. If your looking at a 4 into 4, power pipes are about your only option. Personally, I think they sound a bit obnoxious...a bit over the top in my opinion. I can't comment on the power and performance of them though. All I know is they exist. Sorry.
if your set on going duals, I recommend these. Dual zoom tube glass packs sound awesome, and they look sweet too. These are my personal favorites.
You might find this interesting. This samba member has custom individual 4 into 4 headers, like you were talking about.

I think the redesign just moves them outish a bit to give more clearance for the duals. They have a possible preheat so, I wouldn't see how they couldn't work with singles. I have an oldish version of that on mine with a 34-3. _________________ "If you had a beer can in your hand the beer would have stopped it, alcohol is a natural force of good that keeps you from getting hurt, unless you're city people...." |

Those have a very nice sound, typical of dual glass packs. They are pretty calm at idle, but they will let you know you put your foot down You can talk with them, but they definitely are not what most would call quiet. That being said, they are definitely tolerable. Much better than a stinger or the mega duals.
One thing with those that you will want to keep an eye on is the black. The paint that comes on them is only there to keep the metal from rusting in storage. Once they get hot enough, it slowly burns off. Once it does, or you don't like the look you can brush them down and repaint them with high temp paint for exhausts. I have not used it, but a couple people tell me that Grill Paint works really well. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

Well the exhaust i have now, you cant even talk while going down the road until you are in 4th. Mine arent even as good as a stinger. The 4 pipes go up to a flange, and then a tip is welded to a flange and bolted on.
Ill take the grill paint into consideration. If i go with this style, which is what im leaning towards, then ill go ahead and do that as soon as they come in. |

I get more noise from wind than anything interrupting conversations. I can definitely hear them, but not obnoxious by any means. _________________ "If you had a beer can in your hand the beer would have stopped it, alcohol is a natural force of good that keeps you from getting hurt, unless you're city people...." |

For a dual carb set up would a tee pee with a stinger be good? I noticed some said that some exhaust don't go well with dual carbs |

My buddy runs one and when the pipes are cold they are not a problem. I don't like hows his looks tho. There are a couple with a few twist and turns that look realy nice, like the one buggy disaster is running. I have heard from a few people that the tee pee is a better performing exhaust than a tri-mill bobcat, I realy don't know.
here is a blurry pic of his rail,
