I picked up this radio faceplate. It looks like an early sapphire 1 for the vertical knob radio, but has an extension where the buttons and face are. any ideas if this is a VW faceplate, or what brand it is? No numbers logos or wording on the faceplate whatsoever

I've seen a lot of Sapphire Is with melted pushbuttons, so I'm wondering if this is an optional face plate designed to protect the pushbuttons from hot cigarettes.
The other possibility is that the '61 radio chassis had to be moved back as part of the accessory air conditioner installation and this faceplate is part of the kit, which should also have sleeves to cover the knob shafts, as they would be exposed inside the car. _________________ Thanks,
