Posting this down here because I don't know where else to put it. I have a Frankenbuggy that has varying year components in it that span across the "breaks" in model years. I need some rear bearing seals but don't know what to order. Is there a difference between The IRS or swing axle rear bearing seals? and as a side note, how do I even figure out which one I have? I used to know but twins, a move and 4 years since I drug the buggy out of the shed, I can't remember Embarassed

If you "need" rear axle seals then you probably have an oil leak at the brake drum, which means you probably have a swingaxle. The seal kits have everything for either swingaxle or IRS, 1946 to 1979.

No need for the seals. She's been sitting for a few years and I am pcs-ing to Florida next month and wanted to inspect the bearings and make sure the grease isn't clay. Whilst doing said pre emptive maintenance, I ripped the outer seal (with the spring) and need a new one. The grease is fine but I can't assume the other side is good so I'm ordering a set. I really missed turning wrenches on this thing and can't wait for the kids to get a little older and I have a little spare time

Thanks for the info!! what website is that, it isn't pulling up on my phone.

Its just a link to the seals on CIP's website. Its http://www2.cip1.com/

They're just one of the bigger mail order VW places, but wrong end of the country from Florida. There are lots of others including right here in Samba's classifieds. There's usually a wide range of prices on everything if you check different sources, but be careful on shipping and minimum order sizes.

You should read the buyer and seller feedback forum before you start ordering stuff, and keep an open mind, the customer isn't always right, sometimes he's just an a--hole.

If the rear axle bearings are greased, then its IRS and there are two at each wheel, an inner and outer.

I was at Eglin for 3 years, where are you headed?

And I'm just outside the USAF Hurlburt gate -- home of AF Spl Ops and C130 Gun Ship.
