I have a rear brake drum that when you rotate it it gets real tight and then real loose. Then half way around does the same thing all over again. It isnt draging on the shoes cant figure it out. Is it possible to have an out of round drum.

yes. i'd Have it turned. different circumstances cause them to warp and deviate from "round".. Turning it will ensure it's even all around. _________________ FORWARD: forward is only a good thing, when you're facing the right direction!

If you are sure it isn't dragging on the shoes, it may not be the drum. Pull the drum, slide it on backwards enough to spin the axle stub and spin it. If it still feels like a drag, it may be CV's or deeper in the tranny.
If it frees up, try turning the drum brake surface or buy a new one. (resist buying a used drum, you get what you got) _________________ The closer your tattoos are to your body holes, the crazier you are.

Well guys this is got me stumped. Jacked up the rear end and ran the car in 1st the left rear drum would hardley move this is with the shoes backed way off. The right side spins nice and free. Pulled the drum, and axle and all cv,s rotate free. Put the drum back on and with nut finger tight axle binds. The PO said he replaced that drum with one he bought online. I have been trying to get rid of a knocking since I got it, I replaced the cv,s already. The drum must be warped or bent it is the only thing I can think of. I did try it on backwards and it rotated ok. Any ideals will help I am thinking of ordering a new drum on Monday.

Having to have a drum turned is a pretty normal thing and doesn't cost much. Many FLAPS can do it while you wait.

try having the drum turned again and torque the bolts holding the wheel when you install the wheel. Buying a new or used drum does not quarantee it will be out of round, i have found that sometime you have to turn new drums.
