|
|
So, I got all the tin on the car finally. I was missing the two center deflectors, the firewall tin and thermostat flaps AND the rear engine compartment seal. Now I have all of those and a t-stat.
Now, my queries. What is the tube that goes through the fan shroud for the throttle cable SUPPOSED to look like? Where does it penetrate the firewall tin?
I have it together, but its not right. I'd like it to be so. Any help or pics would be appreciated.
TIA.

I use a 'universal' brake line from the LAPS for this. Already comes with a nice flared end.

Poster may be talking about the after mkt chrome firewall tin. The gas cable tube would go underneath it and NOT thru it.
As for the tube going thru the fan housing it is to prevent the cable chafing and breaking. I like to use a T2 cable with the proper end for the gas pedal...cut to length at the carb. |

Well the firewall tin is aftermarket, but not chrome. Do you mean the tube has to go between the tin and the firewall seal?
I will use a brake line. Probably have some sitting around that will work.
Thanks,

The throttle cable NEVER went thru the firewall but underneath inside a flexable tube/casing that attached to the metal line out of the frame horn area. Other end went up into the front engine compartment covering the trans bell housing. The metal tube thru the fan housing would fit into the flexable tube/casing and of course the cable end stuck out long enough to connect to the carb. Two pieces that kept the gas cable clean and allowed a easy route for a future replacement.
Still have a couple of them on hand. Use two for my Turbo side draft carb running the cable around outside near #3 cyl and up to the carb...a clean setup.
Without the casing there is the chance of the gas cable catching on the trans top nuts or the clutch cable. Have seen that problem many times in the past. |

Gothcha. I used a piece of 5/16" steel brake line. I pushed it through the fan housing and then through the tin between the firewall and the bell. Pulled the flexible rubber throttle cable to the steel brake line. Everthing's good now, I think.
My sister drove it 20 miles to work and back today, so far, so good.
