|

Hey all, I don't think I have seen this posted. I am rewiring my 68 coupe and the factory radio has power and back light wires. The power wire is no problem. The blue back light wire can either go to the dash back light wires so they come on with them or with the power wire so the back light comes on with the radio. Both ways should work, but which way is like factory? |

There was no "factory," as radios were never factory-fitted to Karmann-Ghias. They were always dealer- or owner-installed.
Period-correct, though, would have been just the red power line coming from the fuse box to the radio itself, so that the dial light is not on until the radio itself is turned on. _________________ David Ruby

Wire it to the headlight switch. That way the light is not always on and always burning out too soon.
VWs bought in Europe could be ordered with radio from factory. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Yes, if you connect it into the proper headlight terminal. Have never found that to be needed though. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

thanks, and yes not a big deal on a radio. Been adding gauges and would like the whole dash to dim/brighten all together. |
