How new of an engine can you put in an mk1 rabbit? I saw someone had a Passat 2.0. Are the 5 speeds all the same?

Not sure about which years fit where, but I do know that different transmissions have different gear ratios, especially between ones designed for gas and diesel. Other than that transmisions should bolt up the same.

Quite a bit of info on swapping over at the VWVortex website. There is a lot of Trans info at brokeVW website. Do some research as there were 3 different drive flanges used over the years.
