|
|
Hey all.
Have been spending some quality time viewing online Vanagon ads. Was thinking of buying a properly maintained rust free Westy while in the US. Not gonna happen right now. Anyhow, I'm surprised at how many of these ads show a Vanagon with one or both wipers misaligned or too low. In terms of weeding through online ads, I use this as one indicator of poor maintenance.
In certain climes, if wipers don't get used that much, maybe it's realistic for the owner to let that job slide. e.g. stripped or poor wiper arm to shaft contact. Still to me, a misaligned wiper means the owner isn't staying on top of maintenance or someone has done something wrong while working on the wiper/linkage. The latter being almost the same thing. IMO.
Or am I wrong?

Maybe.
Maybe not.
The splines are sort of "tender" and prone to skidding unless one periodically disassembles and clean the shafts, and re-tighten the nuts. IMHO, most people have better things to do with their lives. _________________ Not all who wander are lost. Which still leaves room for a few lost wanderers...

And yes mechanically my van is in great shape! Did wheel bearings yesterday, wheel bearings wipers I'll do the wheel bearings more important! _________________ 1987 syncro westy tin top sun roof GW2.3 rear locker decoupler custom bumper roof rack Gary Lee tire rack lift south african grill big brakes rhein alloy 15 BFG AT 617 gears ShadyBoy awning 140 watt rear 85 watt front solar mppt truckfridge automatic fire extinguishing system - 2010 Subaru turbo - 1993 Toyota 4x4 truck - 1999 Harley - Dodge 4500 4x4- 1987 tin top westy Jetta 2.0 ABA 1.8 head, 55 watt solar automatic fire extinguishing system -Just sold my 84 Westy |

I think you may miss out on a great Vanagon with such a simplistic dis-qualifier.
Just imagine how much fun you could have telling the story; I got a great deal because the wipers were misaligned. That guy never knew how easy it was to adjust them. After I bought it I fixed it in the drive thru at McDonalds. _________________ TP
