There are several "stove" threads going but I didnt see anything on "other" VW or non VW camping gear. Lets see what you have from the past that makes your present easier or all the cooler Cool

As of late Ive been into finding out everything I can about Hirsch-Weis White Stag products for camping. Ive scored a couple of catalogs of their gear, one from the 70s and one from the 60s. You can see the 70s one here.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/hirsch_weis_camping.php

In that catalog there is a small two man tent called an Alpine. I was lucky enough to score one in the box. I have yet to set it up but it looks to be all there.

Being here in the PNW close to where these tents were made gives me an advantage, but I see the vintage canvas tents on ePay and CraigsList all the time. So if you are interested in old big vintage canvas tents, start searching.

What started it all for me was this White Stag drive away side tent.

Its taken me on a White Stag search for everything Hirsch Weis.

Imagine a vintage camp out, period correct to your VW. They knew how to camp back in the day!

Ive also recently picked up a travel buddy. Its a gas can/tool box. Very handy while out camping on the road.

My family did a lot of camping and backpacking in the late '60s/early '70s when I was a kid, and I remember a huge brown White Stag tent and all the usual camping stuff of the time -- Coleman stoves and lanterns, coolers, etc. All that stuff is long gone now but I've started picking up vintage backpacking gear when I see it. I found an NOS '70s Kelty external frame backpack at a garage sale recently. Cool

Scott - Didn't I show you the old family lantern I had? I was lucky to get it Shocked When my folks split up, my mom had a garage sale and cleared out a bunch of stuff. I didn't know she was selling things and came over after it all went down. The lantern was sitting there unsold at $5. I grabbed it up quick and have had it ever since. There is a funny story attached to it- my father was trying to set it up at a camp site just as dark set in. He fumbled around with it for a half an hour or so. Curious to what was taking so long, my mom hits him with a flash light only to find several skunks walking around his feet like cats looking for scraps. Laughing

I was also able to set up my Stag tent and give it a wash down-inspection. Some minor issues that a sewing machine can fix.

I'm a huge fan I found my first tent a skyline for 5 dollars at a yard sale it was missing a few poles so I made my own. I have since found a couple of spare poles from people who did not dry out their tents.

My second tent is a trail king that I found at a thrift store for $ 12 dollars.

All on ePay now!

I almost forgot! My mom gave me one of her items she had in her stash. She bought this 25 years ago from a crusty old antique store in San Diego. This summer she gave it to me. I looked it up and its a 1937-1942 build Coleman 242B lantern. Very cool indeed and will look nice keeping my 74 Bus bright at the camp ground Cool

Nice stash of vintage camping gear guys. I just recently took an interest in vintage gear and have been looking for some early Coleman lanterns and stoves at garage sales. Missed out on a 54 and 80 something set of lanterns, was just walking over to pick them up and another guys says "sorry already sold". I did score a nice 78 from my in-laws hunting cabin out in the hills, I will get a pictures up soon. Great thread, keep it going.

Vintage Kleeper ad with two kepper tents and two vw's from the 60's.
Kleeper makes folding boats that will fit in the back of a bug or bus or set up on the roof. Took me 8 years of looking to finaly find one tent like in the ad.
