|
|
I recently snapped my clutch lever spring and purchased a replacement online. The new spring (on the right) seems to have a much stiffer spring action and looks like it's about twenty degrees different as compared to the old one. My original is the spring on the left. The inner diameter of the wound section seems to be the same, but the hooked section on the replacement is notably larger than the original one. The car is a 65 swing axle, but I'm not sure the transmission is original to the car. The installation looks unpleasant as it is and I don't want to have to do the job twice...

Clutch spring is the same from 1961-73, so the one go got will work. 1974-later ones the non-hooked end is on the opposite side and would fall off the transmission perch if installed on your '65.
The actual install isn't actually too bad. Pop off the circlip & slide off the clutch lever arm. Slide spring into position. Install lever arm & circlip. Use a screw driver to wrap the hooked end of the spring around the lever arm. Done _________________ 1947 Type 11a

61-72 is the same spring. The coils are smaller than 73 and later springs. The later spring's coils got larger due to the larger dia cross shaft.
Then in mid 75, the hook end of the spring was extended to go with the longer clutch arm.
Below, the 73-75 spring is on the right, 75 and later on the left:
The orientation of the ends shouldn't affect much, they aren't that far away from the correct spring. _________________
