|
finishing the restore on my 56 ragtop...
when we put the driver side Ice pick back on (using stainless steel finger guards)(also using new remfg handle from Wolfsburg)... the plunger on side of door does not fully engage.. that is i cant open door from outside handle. But works fine, fully depresses from inside door handle??
when ice pick his pulled to open it only depresses the side door part about 1/2 way not allowing it to release from striker plate.. But fully depresses from inside handle...
any ideas? suggestions??
thanx

I had the same exact problem and finally fixed it last week.
Same thing, the handle would not push the pin in far enough to allow the mechanism to release from the catch, yet it would open fine from inside the car.
Your issue is the handle itself, which I think you know by now. Remove the handle and look at the backside where it mates with the door, and take a look at the small flat part that would push against the pin on the door. I bet its sitting below the plane of the handle and not flush.
Since its new you can remove the handle and take a punch to remove the pin. You may be able to put it back together so that the plate is oriented more flush to the handle.
I might have to take a pic and edit in paint to better explain. _________________ My '57 build:

Maybe a small measurement helps:
The plunger in rest status sticks out 1 cm. Maybe it's too short?

He's got a 56, so it uses later handles.

Thanx for all the suggestions!!
FIGURED IT OUT!!!
turns out the screws holding handle into door on the side were too long!! they went in too deep and would not allow the the plunger to be fully depressed!!
put in shorter screws and all is 100% fine!! |
