|
|
As mentioned in a related thread, i've got a eTDI van just imported into Autostadt West near Sacramento. I'm looking at options (including just shipping the van up here to PNW), but am still hopeful of having the van start purring and DRIVING it back to PNW.
As such, if there are any eTDI experienced mechanics or owners here who could help out (for ca$h), and possibly revive my dream of driving the van home, please reply or PM me.
Thanks!
Brian. _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

Thanks 4x4BNB.
Yeah, towing to there is kinda the wrong direction, and would lengthen my drive home. With that size tow, i might as well tow directly to Seattle area.
Although, that brings up the idea of towing to somewhere in Oregon that is knowledgeable and then picking up from there - hmmmmm _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

Good point - i was thinking TDI more than 1.8T, but they're probably very competent in any case. Have reached out to see if they can squeeze the van in, and which would be a much smaller tow job

What would you like to know? Once I have the van here and registered/running in WA, i'll be writing up a big step-by-step blow-by-blow accounting. But i'm happy to answer anything you're curious about.

I'll be more excited if/when the van is running well, and sitting here in Snoqualmie :p Until then, it has been a long ordeal and taking a toll. Not to mention the mounting costs which just continue climbing, since i'm now looking at a $1200+ tow.
Woe is me, poor guy
TDI experts know which engine code this is? I know it came out of a VW Sharan van over in Europe, but Sharans had a couple of different versions. _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

It looks like either a 1Z or AFN. I'm not sure why it has a v-belt alternator or the funky PS reservoir. Fly me down and I'll drive it back up...cheap _________________ Casey--

Reimo conversion of an ex-military "91" syncro 16. Inside of upper deck is all cabinets, like this:

Not necessarily - you don't know what i paid things are adding up fast, and there is some minor rust here and there too which will need care.
1. purchase
2. busman.be inspection/pick-up/drop-off services
3. shipping
4. registered importation at Autostadt West
5. customs brokerage fees
6. duty
7a. tune-up and flight down and diesel to get back, -or-
7b. shipping to Seattle and tune-up
8. WA registration, plates
9. insurance at suitable level is challenging
Plus i have to figure out whether i'm keeping it, or my existing 87 westy ej25 - can't keep both, but now selling season is over.
Oh, the dilemna _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

Well, at least there can't be too many of those over here, so you've got exclusivity on your side. I sense the frustration and can empathize. _________________ Casey--

definitely rare, need to remain patient, trial the van for the fall/winter, and next steps in spring 2015 _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

Looks like an AHU/1Z which are almost identical. Might be something different though since it's European. In the US, 1Z is from 1996-97 Passat and 1997 (early) Jetta and AHU is from 1997-1999 (early) Jetta.
Awesome find.
