Hi all-

Can someone tell me what the difference is between the 71-mid 73 upper strut mounts and the later ones? I just received two i ordered for my 71 SB and the bolts don't quite line up with the holes on either side. I don't know if they are the wrong parts or if its just poor quality control.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The three bolts on top will line up no matter what year. The problem is the middle part is bigger on the 74 up ones so it won't go through. Maybe your body has become slightly tweaked, as its only thin sheet metal supporting this strut.
Honestly, I'm pretty sure there aren't reproductions of these parts and its just the stock that's left. They don't really break, all that's inside is a bearing that sees very little movement.

Oh, you can break 'em.

I have one that has lost the seals on both sides of the bearings, you look right in and see the ball bearings. The other has pushed the rubber portion, bearing and all about 3/8 inch up into the metal plate so that when you look at it from underneath it looks recessed instead of standing proud of the plate. Time for new ones.

I guess I will just elongate one of the holes to fit.

Thanks!

When the bearing seals go they really wear fast.

Yup, I've replaced some pretty tragic ones.
They give the front end a very vague feeling when they wear out.

I bought a strut mount for my 71 through CIP1. One of the studs did not fit through the holes. I just bent the corner of the plate where the stud is attached which changed the angle of the stud sticking up, and it bolted right up.

No, there is a company in Denmark that makes them, the only company that makes them I was told when I bought a new set in '09.
