|
Ok so im a year and a half in and I thank its time for a build page.
This is a 63 I got back in high school hade lots of fun in it but its been siting the last 5 years.
Well I finaly got moved in with a grage I can build in so i decided to rebuild the engen. Thats when a buddy of mine convinsed me to convert it to IRS, he gave me all his stock parts. Thats when the snow ball started!
Why not box the arms ok but I will need a roll cage for the shocks, get 930 and notch the springplates for the most travel, Ya that sounds good Hay I thank i should get 3x3s might as well do it right the first time. Well you know how it gose. Now I have 3x3 coilover for all corners, plans for an Ecotec, Tatum disc brakes and a complet rebuild up front hears some pics to start with.
Nice and easy to do the piviot bolts
Nice boxed arms Ya i didint use them
This is the start of my cage.
This is the beam mocked up 8 inch over and 6 inches forward
The bushings i got where just to big but with a drill socket and an old rear piviot bushing I made them fit in know time. I bought a reming tool for the inside.

I'm not trying to be a critical dick. I harvest images for tutorials. you take pictures I need but can't use.
ditch the cellphone and buy yourself a quality digital camera. you have what would be some good images there if they were in focus. or see an optometrist if this is you taking pictures with manual focus... _________________ 73 Beetle Baja, Ghia front brakes, Type 3 rear brakes, 2220 ( 94 X 80 ), Weber Progressive, Bosch SVDA, '97 Mustang seats

Kinda like saying, "I want to steal your car but you drive a Chevet. Could you please buy a Corvette so I can steal that!" Just saying....
Great build so far! And I don't mind the pics. It's what I expect on a forum. I have to say, I had by doubts at first when you said you were going to box the arms on that there swing axle car. LOL Can I ask what the front end parts you show in the pic w/ the link pins ran ya? _________________ I got a Volkswagen for my wife....Best trade I ever made! |

Ill doubled check but I thank I spent around 1500 2000 that's with all four disc 4 piston. The arms and spindles are from tweed they will work for now. Then I got a fresh built for offroad 002 and 2 2.0 12" and 2 2.5 16" kings from a guy all new for 2900 . So ya I still have lots of work. |

I wear glasses and prescription is up to date, and the pictures look fine to me. You might want to either see an optometrist yourself or possibly clean your monitor screen because I see nothing wrong with them.
WrRider.. Nice bug build. Thanks for sharing.

and we have argument purely for the sake of argument! On the internet! Who'da thunk it!
that picture, and the first picture, would be ideal candidates for explaining why the IRS is superior to the swingarm.
Oh, wait: I did that months ago. holding my breath here waiting for the contributions from the argument purely for the sake of argument crew. turning purple...

WrRider, thank you for upgrading your camera. How are you going to mount that 002? _________________ 73 Beetle Baja, Ghia front brakes, Type 3 rear brakes, 2220 ( 94 X 80 ), Weber Progressive, Bosch SVDA, '97 Mustang seats

Hey, I'm new to buggies, so this isn't meant to be inflammatory or anything, im curious why you stuck with the wide 5 bolt pattern.
I can see pros and cons either way, I'm just curious what the motivating factor was. was it cost, parts availability, Stock look, etc...
thanks

Wow, that is kick-ass. I just picked up a 65 with 71 body. Keeping the swing axle on my first build ( I know there will be more ). Any tips on keeping the rear end together with medium off-roading would be greatly appreciated.
Keep it up! Looks awesome! |

One I have wheels that fit wide 5, most after markit off road brake kits are the wide 5 they offer the vw 4 but aren't built for the abuse of off road. You can look at the big buggies that race the Baja 1000 and they run the wide 5.
Plus it looks awesom.

Its not that hard the biggest issue I had was blowing the splines in the rear drums I latter found that I had a bent axle and axle tube so I bought a set of sway away axles and haven't had a problem sens. The swing axle rear end is tuff just don't run to big of a tire and you'll have a great time. ow ya You'll see That when cornering in the dirt a speeds the rear will what to come around on you easy, I'm going to miss that. _________________ My build page
