If only I lived closer... I’ve emailed the seller to:
1. Let him know about The Samba and encourage him to post it here
2. To tell him that his is definitely NOT a ‘69 Ghia.
http://winnipeg.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-...Z369813838
Any thoughts on the year?
PS: I'm sure someone will let me know if I’ve broken a rule by posting this here, let me just say that I have no association or connection to the seller or car whatsoever. Just thought it was interesting that the owner clearly does not know what he has, and that someone might be able to save it for cheap. "need it gone" sounds ominous. |

If it were a runner and people were clambering over it, it might have been removed but as it's a rescue job it's OK. Could have gone in the "Today in ghia hunting history" Sticky
Looks like a '58 or '59.
Edit: Looks like a '59 horn ring. _________________ John.

Interesting. It looks pretty beat up, and being in Manitoba, it is likely a little rusty beyond what is visible. Stored outside with no glass in a an area that gets a pretty heavy snowfall...well, you can imagine.
Too bad about the dented roof and the chain looped through the car - presumably for lifting.
its actually an area of the country that has quite a few rural properties scattered with classic cars. I think VW had a shipping port at one time in Churchill Manitoba - KC. Would be neat if this was a Canadian market car. |

| Amazing that the ash tray doors always rust out on the dash. I like that car I would save it if I lived in the area. |

Thanks John, I'll know for next time. The gas heater setup looks stock, so it probably is an original Canadian market car. |

You can see the small bends where the chain damaged the rain gutter during lifting. I'm really surprised those thin roof pillars took the weight of the car without popping the glass out...
Surely a lot of work to bring this car back, but worth it for the right person. |

My guess is Cognac or Cardinal given the paint that is left and the interior. Leaning strongly to Cognac. |

| I just bought the Ghia and I am taking it back to Edmonton. I got it for $200. The roof is shot because they lifted it by the roof but the rest is bad but not even as bad as my 66 I am restoring. |

| The photos actually show the good side of the roof. I have a question. If I decide to give up on my 66 and chop the roof off the 66 would it fit on the 59? It has way less rust on it than I thought it would have. He said he bought the property and it was in the bush and he was going to scrap it. I am wondering if the tree cover stopped it from from rusting (getting lots of snow on it)or if it was garaged for a while and then put in the bush? Anyway, it will be a fun one. |

Congrats on saving her. Ad's gone so I only saw the photos posted here. Is there an engine?
I wish when I bought my property that a Ghia came with it.

| Thanks, I am really happy with it even though it is pretty beat up. It didn't come with an engine. I was very surprised that the back parcel tray is in great shape, dash is good shape. Drivers side pan is gone but I expected that. It will be fun to work on. I think maybe if I abandon the 66 for this I may be on the road faster but I am not sure what to do. |

Thanks for saving her!!! I've seen much worse examples driving down the road. Definitely worth saving. Keep us posted. _________________ 61 Bus, 76 Porsche 911, 84 Porsche 928, 07 Porsche Cayman |

| Looking forward to seeing her cleaned up, I think cognac is what of the best colors, and you don't see them very often. Any way you could save the top? Some careful massaging? Good luck, and post lots of pictures. |

I'm looking forward to seeing it in person!
With respect to the roof, I'm not quite sure...the lowlights didn't have popout windows whereas the later Ghias did...this might affect some of the roof details. We can always do a comparison.
I did a roof transplant once...it was surprisingly easy. I'd be happy to help if that's what you choose to do. You ought to be able to find a roof locally without chopping the '66...there are a few around and that part never rusts out here.

Nice score, maybe we can have a roof transplant party...
Let me know what else you might be after, I have stuff, but you probably knew that already. _________________ Karmann Ghia Owners of Canada |
