1980 caddy diesel

so running the caddy and the truck warmed up and the lower radiator hose is cold and the upper is super hot and the coolant is going threw the overflow tube into the res, but i am not seeing the coolant move from the res. is this right or do i have a problem.

Sounds like a stuck thermostat. How hot is it getting on the gauge?

it doesnt have a gauge, i need to find one and put it on it for sure. i pulled the t-stat and it opened at 197 and oem says 192. but i am replacing the t-stat and radiator, because it was in bad shape.
