Great job on that headliner!
Excellent install and choice in color. What made you go with the black? |
Thanks. I initially was going to go with a Red (Ruby or Royal) but after friends were joking that it was going to come out ford red, I began looking at alot of pics here and playing around with the type3 selecta, blue was being suggested and it began to grow on me. I started looking at what colors of blue VW had available for a T3 and obviously narrowed it to 67 year color L633. I was going all blue with it. While doing prep work on the shell my buddy said the roof should be painted black to compliment the interior (that was already in the works). I thought about it and set up the selecta and stared at it for a while. It grew on me and thought WOW, with my interior plans, it's gonna look sweet. Well, at least to me anyway. Next day I met up with my buddy and let him know that was the direction I wanted to go in. That's pretty much it. _________________ MonT3

Today I removed the seal from the rear side window as well as the popouts. I have my work cut-out for me. The metal bar at the bottom of the door windows were in bad shape. i have replacements but damn, they were a PITA to remove. And the wing window, oh damn. So how does the window frame come out? It looks to be riveted on there with some weird rivets I haven't seen around. The hammer is my second option so I'm hoping someone will chime in and let me know.
Off to research some threads on this topic. Hope to find something. _________________ MonT3

You need to drill out the upper rivet. There are also 2 more aluminum ones underneath the latch. I'm certain I found replacements for both. Buy a few extras for the upper one though. They are a PITA to get just right when you put back together.
Looking good, great job you're doing here! _________________ 69 Fastback Build

Thanks for the info. I'll get at it. Did you find replacements in the classifieds or another site? Also, what type of tool was used to stamp those rivets back in place? _________________ MonT3

Wolfsburg sells the rivets and one of there guys told me to reinstall the rivet get a ball bearing and a set of vice grips with something between the head to not scratch it up. I've used that method a bunch and it works great. _________________ "white trash but worth every cent"

Hi Ray, picked some up. Will have to try the bearing method out. Thanks for the info. _________________ MonT3

Sorry to go back in your thred. I'm getting ready to do the isolation on the roof and wanted to know if you did a big piece or individual pieces per section? |

So far, so good. It's not a bad place to live [temporarily]. I just moved into a house about a week ago in Hidd. I bought a 2003 Mazda Protege5 and made it through about my first 1/4 tank of gas before it blew a coolant hose in the turn lane into Juffair by the Grand Mosque. ...And the water pump pulley has a dent in it and is eating belts. It's going to be a busy weekend fixing this thing when the parts get in from Amazon.
I just checked the off-limits map and Sanad is red now! _________________ 69 Fastback Build

69Notchback, My insulation was sectioned off I cut the pieces between the roof support beams. Used 3m Super yellow trim adhesive. As for the smaller pieces, I used some long pieces and short ones. Kept trimming them down to fit where I wanted to put them. I probably got more on there than the factory did.

I had a big place out there with a pool. On those hot days, that pool was nice as my afternoons were sent floating around with beer The heat did a number on my S10 Blazer while I was there. I ended getting some parts that were built for that region. My radiator did last two weeks when I picked it up for the first time. That composite sides didn't last. AC died not long after. That was horrible. Stay in the shade man! _________________ MonT3

Sweet! Take your time on the headliner and from the center-out on all sides. As W1K1 mentioned earlier in this thread, work to the corners from the center. More time spent on it the better it'll come out.
I'm working on the steering column electricals to include my ignition. _________________ MonT3

Cleaned the wing window and was planning on giving the black a new coat. Still need to mask that off to get it. So today I mainly covered the steering column. Cleaned the contact points, pulled the wires thru, soldered the wires in place The pain came when I was placing the ignition back in. I soldered the cap to the wires while they were in place, then fed the ignition cylinder thru and closed the cap. Easy huh? Nope! If you played Operation the tweezers, that's what I had to do to get the springs, brown paper and the small piece in place. Took some time as I had alot of runs at it, but the piece eventually went in place. Some pics of todays progress...
When I took this column apart, I found this grey wire taped off and stuffed in there so this time it's not going back in...

The window trim went in alot easier than I thought. Maybe because I researched it alot. Thank you all that went before me to show how it's done. My first window took two tries to get the seal sitting where I wanted it. The second went great. The string I used was crap and would recommend something thicker than marking string. I did scratch my tint in a couple spots that had me cussing up a storm. But it's only to one window so I guess I'll have that re-done later. Enjoy...
