Thanks for the update on the car. I'm left with one question, you mentioned this is your final Oppenhiem post. You selling it off or are you now claiming it yours? Meaning this is the Kirk car versus Oppenhiems? Just curious cause you did one hell of an awesome job on this squareback considering you found her in a field.

Hey wish I was there to give you a beer and a pat on the back brother for some work well done. Its amazing what you were able to do in a short period of time. I said it before that this cars lineage makes it. This is one of the coolest T3 out there. Cooler than lots of the high end snobby shit I get to see. Cool Cooler than Elvis on a block of ice inside a freezer. Cool Cool

Good job man.

Just read through this thread. Cool car and cool history!

My Beetle (current project) was my uncle's then he passed it to me, he bought it new. I have the history right back to the original sales invoice. It somehow 'completes' a car I think. Whereas I was the 10th owner of my Squareback and got no history at all. (And I swear that every owner before me had kept a piece of the car as a souvenier as well Evil or Very Mad but that's another story)

Hey Notchboy, what did you find? I actually work at MIRA!

Kirk, are there 2 holes about 2 to 2 1/2 inches apart on the deck lid? If so it uses the single stepped style license plate holder (used on some bugs too). I think I have one here, but don't know for sure though. Let me take a look.

As for the FI harness, contact Joe at http://jsmeng.webs.com/ and he'll build you one. Cool

Judging by the wear marks on the body from the old plate, it looks like it might have used the bottom one in Mike's picture.

Thanks Mike for posting that. Very Happy

I'm sure Mr Hamm is happy the car went to someone that saw that it still had some more time to run the roads. The wheels looks good.

wow, this is amazing.... makes me want to find out more about mine now, although it would pale in comparison. When i picked my most recent 68 sqaureback up about 5 weeks ago, I really wanted to ask the owner more questions about the history... i sensed that he knew a decent bit about it, but I was 3 hours from home and going to be towing in the dark if i didn't scram. I know he bought it in North Dakota, and I think I may be the third owner possibly... I say this because the seller had the original "Customer ID card" with it and it named the guy he bought it from.

A question for ya, you said you were waiting to get your wheels blasted.... Are the wheels you currently have on it the Flat 4 Sprint stars by chance? I have the same set if so and I am pretty sure they would rub pretty bad on my 68. Maybe the 71 allows for the offset on those wheels where the swing axle doesn't. Anyhow I was just curious if you had to modify anything to fit them.

Great car and story.
