I bought a repair section from Bus depot:

I have NO CLUE how to position it to repair the damaged section.

Does anyone know which side goes on top?

Which end goes to the front of the bus?

Is the way it is shown the correct orientation?

Actually what you need is a "Dogleg" and the section of floor.......If you go to the Slit bus forum and look under the heading " Bus FaQs" there is a thread on welding and it shows how these pieces go together. I realize its a later model bus but that should make it a little clearer.

Hi Matt:

Thanks for your thoughts.

My plan is to use some sheet metal for the floor as the section I need to replace is flat and small so why buy a whole floor section?

The wheel well istself is solid so I do not appear to need a complete dogleg just the part at the step. I looked at the Splitty parts list and you can only buy a complete dogleg but for a Bay you can get just the steps.

Since the step was a complex shape I decided a premade piece would be more expeditent. I spoke with Bus Depot to verify what I needed after sending them the pictures.

Looking at the area, it appears I can do the same with several sheet metal "els" cut to fit but it more fab work for me.

The more I look at the part I was sent, the more confused I become. It does not coreespond to any part on my bus.

I will speak with them next week.

Skills,

It looks like you used a piece from a donor bus to replace the step. I purchased mine new from Bus Depot (http://www.busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=9555242) but the shape does not correspond to the existing step (height, number of indents etc) nor anywhere else on the bus.

I am at a loss on how to install the piece.

If I am unable to find a repair piece, I think I will make some el's from sheet steel, trim them to fit and weld them in. More tedious but I should be ok.

throw that piece of shit away. doglegs are always in the classifieds for around 100.00 you will be way happier in the end to find donor metal. the piece you bought is just the 'inner' step. it is missing the outter part. you need a lower dogleg or step box as sme vendors call it
