I would like to introduce myself to the site,, my name is Jay..
Just got finished with restoring a 1973 Porsche 911 Targa. Took me a 18 months, she is a gem now..........
So I needed a new project, looked at a 1966 Chevy pickup stepside.
Then a friend called and told me about a 1970 Karmann Ghia sitting in a garage at a yard sale. The lady said it was for sale. Hmmm, always loved the look of these..
The next day called the owner and over I went.....
OMG it needs everything! Owner bought it in 1995 to restore, then had 3 girls. So no time or extra funds to spend on his dream. Owner wanted $1000 offered $800 and I let him win the neg. at $801.
Here's the couple with my Dad.
So the Porsche goes out of the garage and the Ghia goes in.
While surfing the forums I saw how a few members built a stand to hold the body. Thanks khooo!!!!

I'm going to work on the chassis first, new pans, redo the suspension, brakes and wheels. Then on to the body. I'll be researching all the topics on here, but asking questions along the way. All the help from the guru's on here will be greatly appreciated.....
First question will be Pans... Where to buy. and what not to buy. I will need full pans as the PO had quite a few quick fixes.. ouch...
Jay

| well to answer your question about the floor pans, check with KGPR. They sell the pans for like 130-140 each. I got both pans for about 350 shipped to Florida, all the local shops were say like 250-300 for each pan. And there's only one company who makes them. I think KGPR is the importer of the pans. They dont come with seat rails so if you want to retain the stock interior you will have to remove the seat rails from your old pan if they are good, or purchase new rails. I am going custom route and will be either installing Corbeaus if I an get a good price, or some Honda Prelude Recaro style seats that I have from an old car of mine. Good luck, mine is a 70 and was that same yellow when I got mine. Your body looks to be in much better shape than mine, I had to replace rockers, rocker channel, heater channels etc. |
