I thought that was the barndoor from the rotting back to earth thread. Now with the story i know it is. It looks a little rustier than when these photos were taken.

Hummm yes.
Maybe those photos are a bit old...
But the rear is still pretty good.
Where it's VERY rusty is the cab area, but anyway... with that crash it needed a full front clip anyway !
Nothing unfixable |

What an amazing find! Seems fitting that it was rescued on the 60th anniversary year of when it was brought to Canada for the CNE.
You do realize there is a Canadian Vintage VW export tax. Payable to your friends here in Canada.... we accept beer... _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval

Now all we have to do is find the other 11 cars. _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval

so are we saying this is the dlx in the CNE display?
unless the one unspecified bus in the list of 12 was a second deluxe?
pretty cool.
<edit>
oh i see two 24As are listed at the top, so 20-029 862 also must be a dlx
so 6 BDs imported...5 on show that we can see...where was the other DLX? also at the show? in the foyer?
can see 5 beetles too...1 missing
you'd have thought the CNE archive dept would have some more detailed pics (of individual cars) _________________ -StockRocks- |

contacted both Pete's autobody shops in the Toroto'ish area, neither in Brampton and they have no knowledge of having anything to do with VW. Worth a shot!

I took a look through http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/canada_dealers_on1.php for the Ontario dealerships where Brampton in located in and was unable to find anything.
That location would have been seriously out in the middle of nowhere 50 years ago. Judging by the name it must have been a very small dealership that evidently did bodywork on the side.
Perhaps google maps might shed some light on it. Very good score to find literature like that in your truck all these years later. |
