Replacing the ol pop top seals and I'm intrigued to see whats under the luggage rack, not as easy as i hoped...
Its getting messy and I don't wanna regret anything... But all my bolts and nuts and screws are out except those front two... they will not budge, I've PB blasted them and the more I try the more bunged up they are getting... Any tips? Tricks? I will definitely replace them so as long as they are out Im happy to try anything...

This is on my 83....

The nuts are welded to a L bracket inside the luggage rack that. They must be on there pretty good. Keep working on them. Watch out on the screws they r cheap and can strip. Make sure u use a big screw driver. If you have not removed it in a long time. I replaced mine with stainless steel bolts. You will be surprised what is under there. This is what I found.

Had the same issue last year. Solution in my case was Vise grips. Even then, it took a lot of "rocking" (unscrew/screw, repeat).

The screws went off, but
- the westy decal suffered
- the pop-top was scratched a bit
- the screws were ruined (cosmetically).

I replaced them with the GoWesty stainless ones, but be warned that their head diameter is a bit smaller than the originals, therefore they may not perfectly hide all defects.

And tons of junk under mine, but no rust or hole, so keep faith Smile

Good luck,

JMR

I love it when people give multiple options on how to handle something and the combo of them works!! Got the second one off by grinding a better groove in the screw and cranking it out...

Not too bad under there...
