I always thought this was a great looking top design. Does anyone know it's history. Who made it? It was sold thru the Meyers Manx catalog. I would not mind having one.

Before '67 it could've been made by Ted's Aircraft Interiors but after that probably by Valley Trim Inc. as work was farmed out as the business expanded so quickly.

Here's a better pic of an original top...

Take the above photos and your buggy to a quality marine canvas or convertible top shop and they can make one. It would be custom work and the cost may reflect it but it not a hard top to make.

Snoop around a marina or club with a lot of sailboats.. look for the best fitting 'Dodger'. (cover over entry to cabin)

It's near the perfect time to talk to this guy (between seasons..) and let him do the fitting at his shop. Top-in-a-box would be a bitch to fit ..if this is not something you do every day.

It would also be great to see the framework and mounting hardware that supports the canvas top; that is, if anyone has reference photos with the top removed. I would imagine that those kinds of shots would be greatly appreciated.

This is pretty much all there is except there should be a pair of straps connecting the two bows which limit how far they spread. If there were no straps the front bow would just flop forward and the top would collapse. In my experience, the forward tube passes through the fabric tube just above the driver's head providing maximum headroom and minimizes flapping. On this top the rear bow passes through the tube. I've never found a rear fabric tube to be necessary because the bow sits securely in the angle made where the top panel meets the rear window panel.

All standared marine top hardware. Also a simple Bimini top type frame.
I'd use Stainless for the hardware but it's an easy fab.

Stainless is a bit of overkill. The stuff is also bulky. Its better suited for a larger boat. The only reason to use it on a buggy is looks; that is if you like the way it looks. Nylon is a better alternative.

BL3,

Thank you for the hardware update, that certainly helps a lot.

I would love to have the measurements of the bows. I have a bimini top frame that I am fabbing up now. Thank you Brian

I picked this top up a few years ago. The Guy I bought it from said it was an original Manx top. No side curtains. Not sure if it is. It is tapered in the back to go up and over a the tail lights. Not sure its meant to be mounted to the top of the windshield or the underside of the front lip. In the process of mocking up the frame. I picked a bimini top framed that I will be cutting down. Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Bruce actually invented the windshield extrusion with the slot in the front edge for the fabric wrapped bar to slip into. All the soft tops Meyers sold would have originally had the fabric wrapped bar on the front edge
