ive see many ignition switch fail. vast.
and all because they hang 5 lbs of keys of the poor thing
even new cars.
no, ive never changed out out on a guess. why would i do that.?
I'm not Paul Allen.

Some like to look at cars and failure rates,
but on this car, tell me , its got what?, 1 wire to start,
and 1 wire to crank? you need statistics on a 1 wire, car , really?

how many hours with a vm does it take to find that.?
answer
zero
you keep it connected , next time it fails. you see it in 1 nano second.
oh, it's zero. bugger me. (I GOT You , you lil gremlin)

also, my cars have a VDO volt meter, so i always know the battery is GO
and the GEN is a go. (like new cars have, ever wonder why?)

leaving me with , 1 silly wire, called 15. that lug on fuse #1 (rear side)
goes my hand dmm meter. (or to my logger if i get lazy)
if that fails, ign, switch or worse.
if i must run wires to the coil to my meter, then by George i do.
do or die. Guessing really does suck.

lest me explain worse
my right fues daisy chains the main power feed.
one day the brass on said pin, decided to be more corrosion than brass.
its pure brass, (love you VW for that fact) so my EMG.flasher would only fail
when the state inspector looks, dang me.

but my meter trap showed me which junction was failing.
a $10 tool, and just a bit of patience.
you can too. just do it.

Don't feel bad I had a 65 mustang that I had nothing but trouble with, made me so mad I shot it with a 22.

next winter, carry a meter and test leads
and use it to find WHO drops FIRST.
and a schematic of your car
print out
TAB Technical, wiring ,Type 1, year, (above click it)
then when it fails you have the meter and the road map to the correct area.

this long ago, we called being a boy scout.
always prepared. (the older the car the more tools and spares, i carry)
in a vw, it loves extra weight up front, i make it happy .

set:
points , coil, rotor, cap, 1156,1157s , spark plugs.
some tools and a meter, and full schematic,
if not , AAA towing options.

I installed a dead start plus a new ign switch - If the switch goes then I can use it to fire it up
This switch is wired completely separate from the existing ign wires

There's a reason that they made these....

Mine died in a MicDicks drivethrough 3 times. I always have to turn it off because of the stinger, they cant hear me ordering. I couldnt get it atarted those three times and had to push it through. You know how dumb i looked? Embarassed Embarassed Ohwell, Ive got a badass car and youve got a sunfire Wink Two times i got it into the parking lot, let it sit for a second and it fired up like nothing. The Other time, i ran out of gas and had my dad bring me some Embarassed Embarassed . That was about a week after i started driving it and before i realized how broken my fuel guage is. Now i just go inside.

Has anybody noticed that chrafenrude dissapeared and candymustang magically reappeared Think Think Makes you think
