Why do you have those external latches for the engine lid? _________________ 1971 Ghia Convertible Autostick

| I see the wisdom of external latches. If the cable breaks you have a mess on your hands. I've been told it is not worth the trouble to latch the deck with the cable and I don't. Plus I think those external latches look cool. Keeps that big motor from escaping. |

Yeah, you wanna keep an animal like that caged, lol!
He has the latch mechanism and it looks to be properly adjusted too, but I think the external latches on his car look cool regardless.

The Bracket that holds the latch catch folded up after some years and I didn't want to weld a new one on and repaint at the time. But yea ya need a good latch to keep all those squirrels in there. Takes a lot of squirrels for that kind of Horse power _________________ Current:74 Ghia Coupe w/ 2276

44 Webers from Weber Direct. Had a time getting the linkage sorted out and sneaking up on jetting but I am real close now. A stroker is a total blast to drive. _________________ Current:74 Ghia Coupe w/ 2276

Just got back from a 120 mile round trip with it. 85 degree day running 3000 to 3500 for 40-50 miles at a time, oil temp stayed at 170-175, head temp 325 and below, fuel milage 24+ ...Lots of tourque for pulling hills and passing See the look on some faces when ya pass them in a VW All in all was a great ride with the motor running flawlessly. Ran it up to 3500-4000 on the way back, this is 70 -80 mph, oil temp went up to 180 but head temps stayed below 330.
I think I'm real close to tune here and will Stay Tuned into the motor. _________________ Current:74 Ghia Coupe w/ 2276

Sounds like a good time.
So, did you start with a new case, or machine out a used one? |

I've only had my 1600DP on the road a little over a week and I can see Mo-power in the future ;d
i'm running straight 30w w/an external oil filter and it's avg'ing around 180 oil temps. It's great you're getting 170 on a stroker.

Especially if it's going uphill
Sounds like it's running very good; you must be on the money or close to "just right" for your tune.

What a perfect "up-grade".
I love my 74 vert - and the my 1776 is cool - but your motor has got to be the way to go.
Never have enough torque.
Congrats! |

Used a new case on the motor. The Pistons and cyl where AA's and I had to shim them with a .090 spacer to get 9:1 _________________ Current:74 Ghia Coupe w/ 2276

Did you also upgrade the brakes to cope with having double the stock power at your disposal? _________________ Dave Ruby |
