| A good wiring diagram will help you trace the other end of the wire. If all else fails, you can always splice into a tail light wire for power. I believe its the same circuit. |

On my car, the same fuse is used for both the license plate light, and the right tail light; I believe it is the same on most early cars.
So, is your tail light working? If so, the connector where the license plate light wire splits off from the tail light wire has probably failed. I can't remember off the top of my head where it is located; I think it is under the rear seat on the right (driver's) side, but not sure.
If the tail light is not working, check the fuse. On my car it is the second one from the right; again, I think it is the same on most 58-67 models.
If the fuse is blown, don't just replace it and hope for the best! Replacing a fuse is not a repair, no more than jump-starting a car with a dead battery is, and on cars where the problem is not intermittent it is probably the second biggest cause of car fires, after the little plastic fuel filter in the engine compartment.
Instead, get your mulit-meter and wiring diagram and look for the short circuit before installing a new fuse. If it is what we call a "dead" short, it will be present all the time and only take a few seconds to find.
However, if you can't find the short, then you may have an intermittent problem (not uncommon), and will have to carry some spare fuses and your meter until you catch that SOB in the act! |

If you're tail lights are working then this should be an easy fix if wiring is still original. Trace the wire from the the license light, it usually will be back behind the black tar boards on the side firewall and it plugs into a splice connector which operates tail lights. It could have broke or become unplugged somehow. _________________ 62 Convertible Bug

| I replaced the wire from the light to the taillight connector and still not getting juice at the light, wondering if the connector has failed. Going to try and clean out the connector again and go from there |
