I have a question on doors. does the metal piece that the rubber scraper goes against need to be there all the way to the end? and can it be seen? mine rusted out there and i was wondering if i need to fix it.

| You won't see that, but it does hold the rubber window scraper in place. Mine look the same, must be a NW thing. If that's the worst part of your door, I'd say you're doing alright. It seems to me that any flat piece of steel the right dimensions could be slipped in there and welded in place. As was said, it's doesn't have to be pretty, just functional. |

yes that is a lot and for a common place to rust out i would think more companies would carry the pieces. i guess i will try my luck at finding a good used one and if that doesn't work out then its time to do some fabrication. thanks for the replies. _________________ 71 ghia coupe

Actually, my deck lid is probably not a lot better. It has a little rust also. _________________ Eric Meldrum

Scott..
Awesome work...I also dig the orange, mine is regatta blue. Can you help me out..I'm just starting to restore my Dad's 68, but its a convertible so its a bit more problematic. Specifically...I can't find rocker panels or heat tubes.
JBugs tells me they don't think they are reproduced anywhere. Where did you get those materials (rockers, heat tubes, etc)?
Thanks, and keep posting pics!

they do reproduce heater channels and rockers. i use kgp&r and cip1.com for most of my rust repair. depends on cheapest price, i have had good luck with them so far and dont have any thing bad to say about them.

u will need the heater channel short, the outer rocker, and the support for a convertible. and u might need the front foot well support as well if it is real rusty. as well as other lower fender pieces. u can get a free catalog from kgp&r witch is real help full in getting parts. http://www.karmannghia.com/page.asp?pageid=34 _________________ 71 ghia coupe

Scotty -
I will be bringing both early at late deck lids to sell Vintage Meet this year. Look me up when you get there!
I was wondering, since the bottom edge always rots out, if someone has ever tried to cut the top edge of a decklid (above the air vents) to see if the lip and curve is similar enough to replace the bottom edge. If so, I've got a couple of additional deck lids that are rotten along the bottom, but have a good top part. I just can't get myself to throw them away, so if somebody can make lemonade........... |
