|
|
| I replaced my voltage regulator and checked genny battery everything works fine. But I smell burning wire, so I recheck wires and the green wire coming from genny was hot. I think it may be too small to handle power. Anyone know what size gauge this should be? Also when I replaced I did so 1 wire at a time so I wouldn't mix any up. |

verify where each wire goes with the wiring diagram.
You can find the wiring diagrams in the Technical section.
I know you said you only did one wire at a time, but check anyway.
Let us know what you find _________________ I may not be good.......but I sure am slow!! |

i just had the same issue happen to me...
what rubber seal was this?
is it normal to smell and see smoke from the green wire where it connects to the regulator?
that does not seem right.
thanks... |

| I don't think that smoke is normal I would check if ur voltage reg is for a 6 or 12 volt that may be the problem or it's grounding somewhere but a faint smell is normal for a lil bit |

i guess i will...
i have had odd issues previously... the gen light stays on and the bat dies after about 2 weeks of use.
also i noticed that the turn signal relay is clicking/buzzing whenever the key is on...
the brushes look good and the wires are all well attached... so the regulator was my first instinct...
thanks for the reply...

Ok so I hooked the green wire backup and as long as it is at idle all seems fine. If I rev it then both the green and the red/white wire from the generator get hot.
Is it possible that the new regulator is bad right out of the box? Or is this indicative of another issue? |
