New to Westys, new to camping!
I'm trying to outfit our '78 Westy for camping, and am trying to preserve as much interior space as possible for the kids, dog, wife, and all our luggage.
What ingenious ways have been devised to transport the Westy side tent and all its poles to the campground?
At this point, I have all the poles laid out flat up behind the rear seat under the mattress pad, and have the tent itself in a canvas bag that I planned to put on the rooftop luggage well.
Other ideas and suggestions?
Thanks!

I put my tent, the poles, my screenhouse, my 2 camping chairs and a small canvas fold up table on the roof rack of the Bus, leaves space inside for all of our belongings and maybe even some passengers. _________________ First Trip in the RustyBus:

Mine's stored in the house of the guy who bought it from me.
The tents I actually use are in the garage. _________________ No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow.

Ditto -- I store it all there (tent, poles, stakes, all wraped in the floor tarp and bungeed to the top). _________________ -Lui

I unfortunately don't have the tent but since we have the spare mounted on the nose I found the tire compartment behind the driver's seat holds our folding chairs and tarp well. We have a freestanding store bought tent that we put in there for trips where we're going to stay in the same place for a long time but want to use the bus to get around. Don't know if your tent would fit there or not. Poles, not likely.
I've also found there's a bit of a pocket between the upper bed and the roof towards the rear that's good for storing flat things you don't need while driving. We've put board games up there, sometimes pillows or blankets.
It's honestly hard to "find" space because they didn't waste much in the first place. There's pretty much a cabinet to fill every gap. _________________ '56 Single Cab

After several months of searching, we finally scored a nice complete Westfalia drive-away tent. It came with a canvas luggage bag made by Kirkhams that was apparently intended specifically for the '74-79(+?) luggage compartments. Unfortunately, the Kirkhams site doesn't list this luggage bag for sale anymore as far as I can tell. We broke-in the tent this past weekend at the High & Dry Bluegrass Festival... what a great addition to the Westfalia camping experience
