Nothing special about the rear of a super. Any STD IRS adjustable plate will work. |
Arrived from Cip1. Are they OK? I'm afraid that the torsion bar on my 1303 will be longer? |
Did you read the fine print?

Now you will be able to adjust the height of your rear suspension in just a few minutes! Urethane grommets recommended but are not included. Note: All adjustable spring plates are made to use the short (21 3/4) torsion bars. This is a stock torsion bar for the 1960-68 beetle with the solid 4 bolt torsion cap. (with no hole in center). When changing over you well also need to use our torsion cap # ACC-C10-4055 to replace your old ones with the hole. On the later model IRS dog leg (trailing /swing arm ) the bolt pattern is slightly different - and therefor you will need to drill one extra hole for proper installation. Will provide approx. 1-1/2 to 2 inches of adjustability

Hmm.. I read it but not very carefully. Now i have a pair of adjustable spring plates, a pair of original (they are so ugly!!) spring plate covers without holes. So i need a pair of short torsions to make this work... Or i may try to convert the new spring plates to work with long torsions, i think it can be done using a new and old plates together
What will be the better decision- to buy a new short torsions (maybe a more stiffer ones) or to use old and save some money? _________________ '73 1303

So i'm back.
The Bug sits in the garage during the winter. By the time new windshield glass and side door glasses arrived. The original windshield is so heavily scratched i can't see nothing at night. Got the glass via JP Group:
Changed all the bulbs in the speedo with a new VDO. The result is amazing, the speedo looks just like it should. I love it

The Spring will come soon and i have a great plans for the Bug. The first part of it is the body repair. Now i searching for the proper body shop, the difficult story...
The other part of the plan is to finish an engine build. I need a new heads and a carbs, because now i have SP heads from a 1200 (?) engine on a 1776 cylinders. I see there are a different head types: 040, 041, 044 and others. As i understand they have a different valve sizes, or anything else? I did a search and didnt found a clear description of differences between the heads.
Can you point me to some FAQ? Which heads will work the best in my 1776 engine if i want the perfomance on the first place? Thanks) _________________ '73 1303

be prepared to spend some cash on heads. thats where the power is. a head with stock type valves will work great, with the 35 x 32 valves, its the package they come in. you get some cheap head and your looking at horrible cast and poor plug placement. not to mention a good port and polish on both the heads and the intake manifolds to match. lastly i would look at the chamber size, because this is direct influence of your compression. more specs on the rest of your motor will help us with pointing you to a good head for you, like your deck hight, what your goal ratio is. good luck on your build. |

Long time no news, but there happened a lot of things.
I've started a body repair. First of all i removed all interior and electrics myself.
The hardest part was to find a right guys to do it all. First attempt was unsuccessfull, they dissassembled the body and then they started to play for time.
This lasted two month, then i took everything from them and found another shop. Then the work began. _________________ '73 1303

I've got some parts. All from JP Group, well known for the "quality". But the front side panels were very good!

So, after three years i have a real great progress
A lot of water under the bridge. The guy who did the work started good but not finished the job, i moved from occupied Crimea to Kiev (i live in Ukraine), moved the car with the belongings in a 5t truck, car moved to another shop in Dnepr (city) that was fortunately good. They finished the metal work and now the Bug is at the painting. The photo is more than month old:
The paint code will be Porsche L7A1. Stay tuned! _________________ '73 1303

Here are some pics of the process, if someone interested.
The previous shop did a good work on the front side, but they "tired" when it comes to rear side... Damn, how i hate this.
Covered an old rust with a new metal:
what the F**ck was that??
the same scheme was everywhere:

All this need to be redone!
The good news is that the new metal guy did a wonderful job with all this, and see how it looked after:

What was done at the front.
The front side repair panels are not a perfect quality as you probably know. The previous shop did the main work, but many small things left to do.
The fuel lid before:
after:
All suspension welding at the front was strengthened
Antenna hole shaved:

Wow.. lots and lots of work to revive that bug! Nice job.
I'm curious if you don't mind sharing. What did you pay for that bug there and how much $ have you put into it so far? I'm just wondering in the differences in cost there vs. the US.
Keep up the great work and look forward to your updates. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]
