Thanks Tom (or Kathleen?) that's what I was looking for. Got it notched today.
I'm still left wondering why wouldn't Meyers make the rear deck lid so a stock Beetle engine would fit without modification? The sidewinder exhaust interferes with the rear bumper bars also. The fixes seem so simple, instead of making everyone who purchases one to use with a Beetle motor have to modify it. Making the rear bumper bars 2" longer would solve not fitting with the Sidewinder.
I did get my deck lid clearanced today, so all is not lost. But tomorrow I'll need to come up with a mod to get the rear cross bar to mount. I can move the rear bumper bars back ~1" but really need more like 2". And I already have them drilled for the bolts that hold them. That should help where the tailpipe comes out, but I'll still need to make adapter brackets to move the cross bar back.
Clearance issue with using a Sidewinder exhaust from Meyers and the rear bumper bars & cross bar:
Thanks for looking and letting me vent,

Thanks vwbug60, your Berrin is very nice also. I'm still close for MOTB, hope to meet you there. The notary told me today that the Specially Constructed title has been taking an average of 3 weeks to get back from Harrisburg. If it happens in that time frame, I'll have a little less than 3 weeks to sort out any troubles with the build and get some mileage on her.

Nice clean cut Scott, how did you make it? |
I used a belt sander, what a mess it made. I covered the motor with a split-open garbage bag, but the fiberglass dust still got all over everything. I added some edging I had left over also. I'm happy with how it turned out.
I finally scheduled enhanced inspection for next Weds. I talked briefly with the mechanic. I'm hoping I have everything in order.
Last night I moved the rear bumper bars back about 1" and added 1.5" spacers. That made the exhaust tail pipe further away from the bumper bars and allowed me to reattach the rear cross bar with the Manx logo.
Tonight I got the seat belts for the front seat installed. I still need one grade 8 bolt that is 1/2" longer.
My wife and kids are going away for the weekend and I'll be "bach-ing it." I should have plenty of time to take care of the little things before inspection. I plan on doing a "foamectomy" on the Miata seats, hopefully removing 2-3" so I can sit lower. And maybe relocating the rear view mirror off the window and on to the roll bar, making it higher so I can see out the windshield better.
Wish me luck for inspection. I think I'll be fine, but am still nervous about it.
Thanks,

Right you are on that fiberglass dust. It is insidious. I have used a shop vac even, aimed right at the cloud source and it still gets everywhere.
Best of luck on the Enhanced Inspection. You are blazing the trail for us Pennsylvanians in that. If build quality matters at all you should be at an advantage. Go baby go!

Thanks Mike. Hoping I have no issues and will be sure to post my experience.
Sun was out this morning, so I snapped a few shots.

Thanks Manx102, it came out just like it was in my head.
Tonight I did the "foamectomy" on the driver's seat. Planning on doing the passenger side tomorrow. They are Miata seats and I have them mounted as low as I could figure out how to do. I still sat high and looked directly at the top of the windshield surround. I took ~2 inches of foam out of the bottom. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to drive it to see if it is any better, but I think it will be.
It's a perceivable difference.

Scott, has the guy who's doing your inspection seen pictures of it yet? I sent the pics of mine off to a number of different stations before I found one that didn't basically say 'no way in hell".
However, once I found them, everything went very smooth and I think I got my title and registration back in a couple of weeks. _________________ Manxter #39 on a 1971 Pan

Adam - He's not seen pictures, but I've talked to him a few times. When I totaled my daily driver last year, the place I'm going did the R title work. The notary at the same place is a long time friend of a co-worker, and the co-worker is the one welded my pans on the buggy. He lives about 2 miles from the mechanic and he buys wrecks and fixes them regularly.
I'm hoping it will be smooth sailing.
Thanks,

Enhanced Inspection went well, no major issues. Paper work took a bit of time to get straightened out. I needed to provide receipts of all major components. Something I knew, but somehow forgot, is that anything that I did not pay sales tax on, I now need to pay PA sales tax on in order to get the title. PA Sales Tax alone added another $750 to the process. I also had to provide the instruction manual for the build, the notary photocopied it for me. If it's a scratch build, she said you'd have to write up how it was constructed. Inspection & Notary fees were $126.
I dropped all of the title work at the state Rep's office afterwards. They will hand deliver it to Harrisburg for their approval. I'm told some go through the first time, others they have seen rejected up to 10 times before they went through.
If all goes well, I should have my title in 3-4 weeks. Then I'll need to get it registered and the state annual inspection.
Thanks,

Personally I think it looks better without the edging in this instance. Does it rattle without it? _________________ Manxter #39 on a 1971 Pan

So do I. The protector makes it look like a fix. Without it it looks just right. |

Yep, he did such a great job on it it looks like it was made that way originally. _________________ Manxter #39 on a 1971 Pan

The deck lid just barely rests on the alternator. I tried to double-side tape thin foam behind the lid where it touched, but I couldn't get it to stay very well. I felt it needed at least something between the two. W hen you see it in person, remember to ask about it, and I'll show you what I mean. The edging is easy enough to remove, it's only a slip fit. It's not as gawdy when you aren't focused in on it.
And once I get the license plate & get it mounted, it will be mostly hidden.
I will be cutting it close for MOTB. I'm fighting carb issues on a 34PICT-3 now. It doesn't want to respond properly to tuning. I'm sure I'll eventually figure it out.
At this point, I'm making contingency plans to trailer it to NC, if I don't get time to put some miles on it.
Still keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks,

Thanks hcallaway. Are you going to MOTB?
Happy day!! My VIN plate came back to the local State Rep's office! They said the title should be in the US mail directly to me. MOTB is looking like it may really happen for us!
I'm LEGAL!! Now all I need is insurance, registration, and a 2nd annual inspection....Hopefully by next weekend.
Not much more has been done since I went through Enhanced Inspection. I finally buttoned up the 3rd brake light. Not 100% sure I like the white plastic, but it sure lets the red LEDs through. I ordered the velcro to attach the brackets for the side curtains and doors. Not sure how well it will hold but I'm thinking it should work fine. I don't want additional holes for rivets and snaps. The brackets were dropped off at the powder coaters this morning. All I need that I can think of after that is rear seat belts...
Thanks for looking,
