The single carb setups generally suck in most respects, but do well in certain applications, like offroad or mild big CC engines.......
For a near stock engine kadrons are good, dual IDFs are great too but I'll admit they do take a bit more $$ and knowledge.
Dual 36mm Dellortos or weber IDFs get the best MPG out of anything available. Yeah they look huge but they use less fuel
Chokes are usually not needed with dual carbs, witht eh accelerator pump shooting right into the head you really don't need chokes! |

The progressive and other single carbs can be made to work on appropriate engines. Once your duration gets too big, it becomes difficult to tune, and eventually you will run into trouble with the capacity of the end castings, especially if you have also increased capacity. Single barrel dual carbs also put a limitation on how much cam you can run.
Kadrons and dellortos are no longer available new, so if you buy second hand you might get stiffed. Reliable places sell some good rebuilt units, but run close to the cost of IDFs.
If your engine is fairly close to stock, run the progressive or ICTs for your application. Otherwise you might as well go straight to the IDFs. _________________ There has only ever been one man who was perfect, and they nailed Him to a cross. |

Don't spend more than 150$ on it, that's all you'll get for a weber progressive kit used.
see? http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php?...ton=Search
only suckers spend 400$ for that junk setup
But due to the large number of suckers buying them new there is a surplus of good used ones......... many with very low hours |

Agreed. Dual Dellorto 36 DRLAs or Weber 40 IDFs would be my choice on a stock 1600 DP.
I wouldn't touch a progressive with a 10 foot pole, except maybe to push it off a cliff. _________________ 1966 Karmann-Ghia convertible |
