The Beetle people have 4 different forums, the Transporter people have 3 different forums, but Vanagon and Eurovan are lumped together in the same forum? What's up with that?

While it is true that Vanagons and Eurovans are both water cooled, that is where the similarities end. Since Vanagon and Eurovan are two completely separate beasts they should each have there own forum. It is frustrating to search for answers to a Eurovan question in the combined forum only to get hundreds of answers that apply only to Vanagons.

This is an appeal to separate the two forums.

you should use the existing topic before starting another.

Once you do, you'll know the answer is NO.

Ok I've read the other posts. I still don't know what the problem is. This has to be political by the people that run Samba, there is no other explanation.

Some of the replies I've heard and my response:
1. Not enough Eurovan traffic - Well if they had their own forum there would probably be more activity
2. Use VwVortex or Yahoo - No those are OTHER resources that may/may not be used by the same people as Samba
3. All water cooled VWs are all the same - Please don't advertise your ignorance
4. We shouldn't even support any water cooled forums - Fair enough, if that's what the administrators want get rid of the entire Vanagon/Eurovan forum

So is it REALLY that hard to create a new forum called Eurovan and modify the name of the Vanagon/Eurovan forum to Vanagon? I'm not asking that the old posts be split, that WOULD be too much work for the administrators, just split the forums please.

That's the reason and splitting out will not increase it enough.

BTW, Eurovan is not the only one to request it's own forum The Super Beetles asked to be split and was turned down.

It was suggested that if you post a Eurovan topic, put the word EUROVAN in the subject. That will make it easy to find. But people are lazy or don't care.

Glenn - I disagree. The present combined forum is a nightmare to navigate for a Eurovan owner. Searching is useless and usually generates hundreds of Vanagon only answers which frustrates a Eurovan owner. If we had our own forum we could post and use it MORE often without having to wade through all the Vanagon stuff.

I can understand the turn down for the Super Beetles. I owned both a regular and Super Beetle at the same time and there was not much differences.

In the case of the Vanagon and Eurovan there are more mechanical difference than Beetle vs Super Beetle or even Beatle vs Transporter. If any VW types deserve seperate forums its Vanagon and Eurovan IMHO.

You're entitled to your opinion and i'm entitled to mine.

Personally I think Eurovans belong in the Watercooled forum with the rest of the watercooled cars. At least early Vanagons are aircooled.

how about splitting the early-build vs the late-build Type 3 forum?

Agreed. If nothing else, it would be a lot easier to search and get relevant results.

My parents bought a EuroVan recently and I was interested in finding out what kinds of accessories I could buy them for it, and it was almost impossible to do searches for EuroVan-specific information.

I know there's not as much traffic for EuroVans and a EV-specific forum would be pretty slow but it would really really help for searches.

You can use Google to search the site by using the "site" parameter.

Ask that question on a separate post. I'm just asking to separate the Eurovan from the Vanagon forum.

A Eurovan bears no resemblance to a Vanagon in any shape, form or mechanical feature other than having a sticker that says VW. Anyone who has owned or worked on both knows this.

How else do you think I tried searching for the information? For every search I tried the overwhelming majority of results were for Vanagon information and I couldn't find a good way to narrow it down to EuroVan only results.

No need to be a poopy-head.

If you think that's a valid solution you're nuts. The results are a mess. A lot of them are classified ads even though you included the "-classifieds" thing.

VW Brethren why do you torment each other?

Let's have a valid logical calm discussion. Why or Why shouldn't we separate the Vanagon/Eurovan forum?

I think the biggest reason is that they are two completely separate vehicles, pure and simple.

Not sure if you realize that the site is for Air Cooled VWs, water cooled are tolerated since many ACVW owners also own watercooled.

Jetta, Golf, Passat, Corrado and other watercooeld cars are all lumped together. I "guess" it makes sense to put Eurovans with Vanagons since they are both "transporters".

I agree.
The various models of Vanagon are similar enough that information about them is fairly similar and a lot of the same tips and tricks will work across all models.

The EuroVan is different enough that almost none of the Vanagon stuff will translate.
