The video does not do this thing justus.. I never back down from a street race, but if this car pulled up beside me and rev it up, I would think to myself, guess I'm going to get a quick look at his tail lights....
The laugh is because this thing makes the hair stand up on my knock and arms..... I love it. _________________ Kevin "Coolrydes" Zagar

Punting to plan B on the ECU. Details are in a post here.
The car runs but it doesn't start reliably due to crank sensor sync issues. Oh but when she syncs, oh la la! Someone on GermanLook said they couldn't wait to "see it turn a wheel in anger". He's some unresolved childhood anger issues being worked out:

following your build and wondering if there are any updates? I have a 62 Ghia and really want to do this conversion. Have you got the cooling worked out? Great build so far. |

Been working and traveling a ridiculous amount..so not much demonstrable progress. Small updates:
1. *love* this motor!!
2. the car was running poorly upon arrival to the east coast. After extensive diagnosis, we discovered that the rebuilt gas tank is still producing a good amount of rust. The micro rust particles were clogging the injectors.
Our plan is to drop in a fuel cell and sell the stock tank. These modern engines need clean fuel.
4. Drove the car a bit. Still smiling. This is a perfect combination! There were two white Porsches in the shop (Boxster and 911) and a few nervous looks from their owners (and grins from the mechanics that worked on my car).
5. Settled on a final color! Didn't want to have a custom made color - been looking at other cars and trying to find the closet to our mockup.
Still have a ways to go.. Going to tackle wiring next.. _________________ Introducing the Basilari 306R.. A low light Ghia, performance chassis and 300HP boxer six.

Merry Christmas!
Just made a small update for this project. It's been too long. Apologize to those following this thread. It's still alive and more details are to come later.

A little bit of progress:
- windshields from the parts car installed
- gas tank coated, sender unit shortened
- some non-vw engine work done (running again!)
Body work and some radiator testing up next..

Extensive body work is underway. There is a build update on the site with a bit of detail. While that is going, we've ordered a custom gauge set:
Working on a few blog posts about low light body panel sourcing. It's an adventure!

Love the flared rear fender. By far the best I've seen done. Looking great, can't wait to see the final product. Keep up the great work. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Rest in peace Ruby, I will miss you. Hello <insert Ghia name here>! |

I'm subscribing! Especially since I'll probably do something similar with my low light which already sits on a 69 vw pan with IRS in back.
I like the rear flares as well - what was the reason (besides how cool they look!) for doing them? Clearance for wheel/tire? |

interesting.. :)
The flare was 100% unintentional. It is the result of metal shrinkage. The plan is to hammer and dolly it back to a smooth state.
but.. plans can change. :)
Rear wheels clear just fine as is. The fronts work but we're going to cut down the wheels to a 6 inch width. For some reason though the car shows "lower" after all the body work. We're going to raise it a bit. _________________ Introducing the Basilari 306R.. A low light Ghia, performance chassis and 300HP boxer six.

Do you have an idea about how much the body work alone will run you? My ghia is in similar shape but my wheel wells do need some work. _________________ 77 westy 2.0 FI

no estimate on the body work. i'd probably not want to see one but i don't think it will be that bad once tallied up. the parts cart has been a great buy at $900. the '58 steering wheel alone was probably worth a third of that. we plan to sand blast the seat frames from that car and i think they'd be worth $250 at least after clean up. _________________ Introducing the Basilari 306R..
