There are a number of "Super Moderators" which can moderate all forums even if they are not listed, so there is not forum with only one moderator.

Moderators discuss specific topics/posts and general "moderating style" behind the scenes so you are mistaken in thinking that any one moderator can do as they please.

We work as a group, it's just certain mods have duties in forums that they have better knowledge than the others.

I moderate on several other sites, so I know how the game is played. It's best to have duplicate model-specific mods in each section because they know the subject matter and players, and spend a good deal of time in their sections. This isn't really a controversial proposition here

Most moderating is not technical. It's enforcing the rules, as they interpret them, keeping the topics on topic and keeping the players in line.

I don't know much about Vanagons but i know when someone posts an ad, when 2 people are auguring for the sake of arguing and when a topic no longer resembles the original post.

But then, this is Everett's site and all final decisions are up to him.

If you have specific requests, you should address them to him via PMs.

Dude,

I have a standing request for the Super Mods to watch my "fiefdom" with me.

Unlike some, I am not there watching the kiddies 24 / 7.

I ask for help on a frequent basis on the Moderator Discussion forum.

If you look, there are a few forums with only one mod listed.

You have stated on several occasions you are a mod elsewhere.

I am curious where that is, please?

Glenn described the situation correctly.

Even in the sections with one one "real" moderator listed, there are at least 2 moderators, possibly 3 or more.

There are also certain members that effectively act as moderators without actually being assigned as such, as they use the "Report" button when needed.

No, because he has dangled that carrot sooooo many times, I want to know.

So I am asking him to put up or shut up.

PS: I do not have that much extra time to be a pita on other web sites.

What you described is the situation, without there being a 2nd formal moderator name at the top of some sections.

In regards to Vanagon:
If there is someone who wants to nominate themselves as a "real" 2nd moderator in there, feel free to PM me and you will be reviewed.

There are a number of members on the site that do not want the (possible) headaches of being a named moderator but effectively act as such. If you are active in "their" section(s) you will know who they are.

You mean I can have some "named" help?

Wow!!!!!

Then I will not be the only mushroom with a target painted on them.

Nominating yourself is a non-starter.

, PM the moderator, PM a Super Mod or PM Everett. There's a large number of members that help in keeping things running and do this on a regular basis.

Also, to Walt's credit, he asks for advice many time about topics that are problematic. He also removes topics so we can review them and many times they are "sanitized" and returned.

As a moderator on other sites, you know that you can't be everyone's friend. You have to make hard decisions and get blamed for everything. It's a thankless job and some people make it harder than it needs to be.

I've restored a number of Mercedes distributors and I feel your pain. MB owners can be very difficult to deal with.

I actually like modding the tech sections, 'cause it's mostly about rendering assistance and such, but OT is like an 18 hour hot Summer ride in an non-airconditioned schoolbus with 47 screaming 6 year olds.

This can be done without being a formal moderator... and is often how we choose moderators.

I can moderate in there, and I read most of the threads. If it's a question of fairness, I can assure you that at this point I think you're all crazier than rats in a coffee can, every single one of you.

I used to give that honor to the Bay Bus Folks, but after the last few weeks, you guys blow them out of the water.
