I don't watch the events thread, don't have time. I would have liked to have seen some syncrofest and syncro de mayo pictures, but now I will have to search for them in a forum outside my main forum, and the search function leaves a lot to be desired when I think I am using the correct key words (goes back to the time thing).

Even when I try to post photos of an event (JUST PHOTOS), it gets locked and said to use the page in the camping/event forum. Really? I can't post pictures of vanagons in my own vanagon forum?

Agreed, I visit two sections of this forum....vanagon>split bus

I've posted GTG (vanagon related) only to get them squashed by the voice of thunder.

Maybe a couple of stickys by region? and we could post with in those....like PNW GTG's we have the PDX thread and thats cool too.

There is a thread in Vanagon with links to all the Vanagon-related shows.
It's a Sticky.
Use it.

If you have trouble finding something or using the search, please post a question in the Site Forum asking why you can't find XYZ and let us know what you are searching on.

Someone recently posted they could not find the Syncrozest thread.
If I go to the search box in the upper-right of the site, on every page, and enter Syncrozest, the thread comes up instantly. So... easy to find?

What you described above is a duplicate thread.

If there is an existing thread about an event, all photos from that event should be posted in that thread ONLY, for the simple reason that we, and hopefully any logical user of the site, would want to see everything about a single event in one place and not have to locate multiple locations to find out everything about a single event.

Syncrozest is an overly simplified easier to find topic. Rarely is the Search function much help to me as I don't know the EXACT wording and format. I think that is what frustrates people. Is there not some way to soften up the prerequisites required to find something. Many search results don't even have any word in your (mine) attempts. If the search was easier or more forgiving (like capitalization or not is one example).

If I'm writing a travelogue of a trip and I happened to stop into 2 or 3 Shows/Events (annual or otherwise), I'd be posting it for the Vanagoners, not the entire population of Samba. I "think" you can follow all posts of a person if that's what interests you moreso than the topic.

You should be posting in the Stories forum.

The Vanagon/Eurovan forum is not a world to itself.

If your camping and going to shows, other Bus owners and even many other members might be interested. Not just Vanagon owners camp and travel.

I'm glad that this is being addressed in a somewhat light hearted manner rather than degenerating into, well, you know what I mean.

I hear you about posting in special places but gosh I'm a vanagoner and that's who I want to reach but I will try it your way perhaps. Just means that during a quick visit we have to look at many sources for Vanagon business. That is a turn off to time spent visiting the site and could result in fewer people which also affects Advertisement Interests. It seemed to work fine up until recently. I understand the 'politics' of the major Syncro events but can't be a Syncro without being a Vanagon. Smile I'm not a Westy but I am a Vanagoner and I feel as much part of that community as I can possibly feel. I don't really like having to go elsewhere! Rolling Eyes

I search around multiple forums on this site on a daily basis. It is not difficult.

I stay away from that Vanagon compound, though. They're a scary bunch.

Sounds like you're a snob.

I camp out of my Beetle and enjoy reading the traveling adventures of others. I just don't drive a "shed on wheels".

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It's thinking like that which can turn the Samba into a site of small autonomous groups rather than a large cohesive community that shares technical experiences and social events.

When you cam do you only associate with Vanagon owners or do you mingle with the aircooled people?

My personal opinion is if a event is Vanagon only then it should be in the Vanagon/Eurovan forum. But if its open to other models, it belongs in the Events forum.

I search other forums if I want to look for something specific, but I'm not interested in 99.9% of other events out there. So I don't want to have to sift through one page that is half stickies of irrelevant shows (to me and 80% of other vanagon drivers). If it's going to get buried, just let it get buried in our own forum.

If I want to look at DKP wannabe cars, I'll be able to find pages and pages of them in the events forum.

I totally agree, if it's a big show, it will go in the events/shows/clubs thread.

So you don't identify yourself as a VW person.

If you want a forum with only Vanagon people, then you should just post here: http://www.vanagonhacks.com/forums/

That way you don't have to sift through all the aircooled crap.

Glenn people are addressing this issue in a positive fashion. Are you suggesting that all Vanagoners who don't agree with you or who will not be bent to your (not you personally) will, should depart for another site and occupy it as it is more suitable to our needs and desires? That's a good way to impress advertisers. Gee there was/is another site that had dictatorship like ways and it didn't/doesn't get the high profile that Samba does.

Over the last couple of months I have noted that many many more Vanagoners are visiting and posting on other threads in other forums. I think what most are saying is they don't want to be 'legislated' into using other forums in Sambaland. When I go to GTG, annual event shows I mingle with ALL VW's people BUT if I want to sit down and discuss something then I'd do it with my peer group. Rules work for a society

Enquiring minds want to know why your tent is not on top of your bug? I saw my first real time bug n bed recently. Neat but I'm afraid with advancing age and mobility issues I need a shed! Actually vanagoners refer to themselves frequently as bricks with engine in rear.

Consider the needs of your population and the interests of your advertisors. I don't really like going to so many forums but when I have the time I do try to 'mingle'. oh and thanks for the link Wink

I've never heard of an exclusive vanagon only event but I've sure seen many 'bug' only, or a/c only events. We welcome all as we are trying to take over the world, one a/c at a time Laughing

Your 'addressing" is t have everything in one place and then build a fence around it.

My point is if you want a single place for everything Vanagon, then the Samba is not for you. We encourage everyone to intermingle. I like VW shows where there are no specific classes and cars are mixed. that way the Vanagon people don't part, put up their awning and never leave their small area. This is noticed by the air cooled people and why they don't feel Vanagons are VWs.

Segregation doesn't work and neither does separate but equal.

Yes, if there is some topic you have are having trouble finding or a topic outside the most common area(s) you visit, it's best to use the "Watch this topic" link at the bottom of the thread.

You will get an email when someone posts, or you can find the thread again in your profile, if needed.

Contrary to popular belief I don't read everything on here but I do "watch" various random threads in the areas I don't always read to:
1. Keep updated on new posts in that thread.
2. Have it accessible via my control panel in the future so I can find it again easily.
