I wish you had filled in the blanks there.
There are two things you can do. If you have a meter, you can see if the black wire is a ground by checking continuity between the relay end of the wire and a known ground. Or you can trace the black wire and see if it goes, either directly or indirectly, to the ground on the firewall.
Sometimes the color of the wires can change over time. There was a debate some time ago as to whether the pigtail leads to the rear running lights should be gray or white. So it could be that your black wire is a discolored brown. |

It's not clear...
... Where are you coming from and going to??
Tell me that and I'll fill in the blanks for ya.

There are many reasons why that is a bad idea.
Again, happy to help, but I don't know what your trying to wire.
The flasher itself
The hazard switch
Or????

Fixed it for you.
You had a space between "jpg" and "[/img]"
If you preview before posting you should see the image, if not, something is off. _________________ Old City Oil Drippers Northeast |

49a = Blue wire, connects to 49a on the hazard switch
31 = Brown, connects to a ground lug, any ground really (for that mater "31" is ALWAYS ground)
49 = White wire, connects to 49 or "+" on the hazard switch
P = Blue w red stripe, connects to the indicator bulb in the speedometer (the lowest middle bulb)
Enjoy,

Why assume when being sure is so easy? You have a meter. Check that the black wire is a ground. |

It is ALWAYS possible to substitute different colors of wire.
I once built a roadster for a guy who wanted ALL the wiring white.
I did overlook your question because I assumed you would have followed, like with your eyes and fingers, the ground wire to it's ground lug.
Have fun. _________________ --- The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at and repair.
