Our vw project
HI guys don't know how this is going to go down on this site but I will try. Its not a HQ or a holden or even a ford but I an trying to give you guys something a little different to look at. It not even a 6 or V8. But one thing is for sure all you guys know how to make someone welcome. there is also one thing that I really like about this site is the willingness to help and give out contacts. So here we go this will be a father daughter project. most of you know me as Vido and we affectionately name our daughter as Princess. Let me tell you about Princess. She is our darling and she is a person that stands up for herself and always back up the underdog. She also have a very bubbly personality that is hard to hate. My thoughts of people that own beetles is they are all left of center and let me tell you Princess is one of them. Eg she is wanting to become a PLUMBER and she is doing a Vcat ant tafe in pluming and also her VCE. So she has her work cut out for her. She is also excelling in pluming by being well ahead of the rest of the class.......... Princess originally wanted a KOMBI but they are well out of the price range. My wife and I had made a $7000 limit for all the kids for their first car. As I done with BOOF. She holds a part time job and she is saving for extras so that she can put a personal touch to the bug. So let me tell you about BORIS yes he already has a name he got that before we got him home from hoppers crossing. 40 min drive. So far he has cost up $4000 to buy which leave me $3000 to spend.......hmmmmmmm....... anyway once we got him home I thought that I had bought a Lemon as I had to spend nearly another $1000 to get him to a reliable ride. Not bad for a roadworthy car Ha Ha . Needed new front shocks so i got some coil over shocks for him. Oil leeks like you wouldn't believe. motor had to come out and get fixed at the previous owners expense. While it was out I got them to put a new clutch in. While he was there the guys talked me into putting an electronic dizzy in. We got him home and had to take him back as it wouldn't run dizzy left loose and still had oil leaks. So as you could imagine I was So happy after that. Once we got him home again drove him for a couple of more days and a front wheel bearing let go. at this stage i was pissed. The last guy that had it only put multipurpose grease in the bearings when he put the 2inch drop axles in. So it took me about 3 days to change bearings as one was ceased on there real good. had to make up the mother of all pullers to get the drum off.so that was another job done. While it was in the drive way the master cylinder decided to shit its self. Well wasn't I impressed. So I got a new one of them.i thought that surly has to be it. But NO BORIS still had more to come. with the new master one of the front wheel cylinders shat it so off the the shop again and a few days later back on their road. At this stage i thought my god what have I bought. So I started to drive it every where to make sure it will be right. About a week into that accelerator cable snap. I was ready to push it off the cliff. Fixed that. Then it was a good stretch of nothing going wrong for about 4 weeks he started running rough............pulled the carby off and the needle and seat had fallen out [ ball bearing and spring ] fixed that and so far so good but I need to get another carby for him and I have settled on a Progressive carby for him and yet to buy. So that is the story on BORIS so far in saying all that at least it all happened when I was driving him and Princess should have a good car. Princess could see that the $$$$$$$$ was going down fast and she kept a tally of all the expenses. in her wisdom she payed us back the $$$$ so that we could spend more on painting interior on other things. SMART GIRL I HAVE THERE. Anyway enough chit chat here are some pics.
These are from the add when we bought him.

So know that you all know of BORIS he was sitting outside in the harsh Aussie weather and he didn't like it. He got skin cancer. Once we got him into the garage. I had a better look and this is what I have seen. Looks like a back to metal job.
some of the blisters on the roof
Going to RIP the roof with this

Princess wanted me to add this pic it is BORIS hanging with the boys at the Australia Day Cruise. Nothing like doing your own thing or stand out in a crowd.
Funny thing on that day was BORIS some how ended up the leader of the pack that day didnt matter how slow I went no one would over take. So I thought that I would stop at Portarlinton and what do you think the others did. It was a very bizzar thing. Even when I left some how I ended out in front again.I slowed right down so the boys could open thier cars up on a remote road but they were all happy to have him lead. |

The tear down begins............................... Princess and myself had a bit of a dig today before she had to go to work. We got a couple of hours in and i think that she done a good job she was more that eager to get in and have a go. Not bad for the first REAL time of swinging the spanners.
This is princesses boyfriend we shall call him PRINCE .........HAHA

I thought that I would go out and have a look at what I am up against. There was a little bit of ewwwwww and a little bit of yum as I really enjoy the fabricating side of the re-beatification of cars.
I attacked a couple of spots that didn't look to bad until I got into it with the wire wheel on the grinder. There was about 3mm of bog to reveal this. I thought ok not to bad of a repair could be better.
After having a look at that side I went to have a look and attack the other side as that was sporting some bubbles and found this happy with this a original rust. Ha Ha

These are some pics of the bad repair work that someone else done a few years earlier. One thing that I don't understand why not cut it out. So that it will not come back like it has. My thoughts are cut out until there is no corrosion left behind.
