I am starting this thread to log my build of a 1978 bay window. I am installing a 265hp Acura motor with Kennedy Adapter plate. I am also doing a complete restoration of the body and interior. I am doing this thread to help other who might be considering the same build. I love my bus i just want to make it stand out away from the crowd. I look forward to your questions. _________________ 1978 transporter Acura powered

What are you doing to the brakes? And why Acura, to match the wear of the odd sized to even sized wrenches? _________________ '69 Riviera Bay |

I was an acura tech for years and they make a great engine, light weight strong and reliable. I am not sure on the brakes yet. i see alot of people using the 944 brakes. maybe there is another option???? any suggestions? _________________ 1978 transporter Acura powered

Very cool. I'll be doing this body work soon too. Could you get a close up of the cut off front bumper area and post it? What do you plan to do there? I've got a big dent there where the bus hit a pole or something. _________________ 1979 Sunroof Deluxe Bus with the sunroof and its parts sitting in my closet and a westy pop-top to cover the hole. Lower 1/5 of the body is gone from rust. Freshly rebuilt 2.0 with Federal FI and newly restored heat exchangers. |

I am planning on putting a polished stainless steel plate over it that will be installed with counter sunk flat head allen screws. this way I can take it off to polish it. plus the led turn signal lights will reflect off of them. Good luck with the body work. this is my first time and I have so much respect for the guys who do this full time. If I can recommend one thing is go to a body shop supply house and buy good quality filler. it makes all the difference. easier to sand and the end product is far Superior to Bondo grade products. also invest in a high cfm compressor. _________________ 1978 transporter Acura powered

Cool, watching your thread with interest. My 78 bay is water cooled with a VW TDI. Keep posting lots of pics.
What are your cooling system plans?

My uncle has been an old school body guy for 40 years and boy does he have a lot of good advice. I do need a good compressor though. _________________ 1979 Sunroof Deluxe Bus with the sunroof and its parts sitting in my closet and a westy pop-top to cover the hole. I found my new one on craigslist, $225 for a twin cylinder 11.5cfm at 135psi. I can run two air tools at the same time with out killing the tank _________________ 1978 transporter Acura powered

Hi Mark, I am using an additional air scoop installed on the lower d/s area and then cutting a NACA duct just above the wheel well to draw additional air in. I am removing the spare tire holder so that the radiator can have some additional room. the entire area is sealed so that it forces all the air across the radiator. there will be a puller fan mounted on the inboard side for when i am not moving. the Acura motor doesn't run very hot so I should be OK for cooling. I am also running an external oil cooler and possibly a dry sump system to help shed some temp away. I will send some photos as it progresses. _________________ 1978 transporter Acura powered
