Always take a break and then approach the problem in a calmer frame of mind.
From what you describe it sounds like the drive pulley is against the alternator housing. This happens because the aftermarket pulleys are not the most carefully made parts. You may need to grind the back side of the pulley to make it clear the alt body. |

| Also check to see if the spacer ring is on the shaft between the alt and the pulley, thats what keeps the pulley off the alt housing.Calm down and take your time.We are all here to help. |

So can I still use this alternator then? Or do I have to get a new one also what is the typical amount of shims needed to space the fan away from the fan shroud _________________ 2006 kawasaki zx-6r

I going to take a guess and say that you didn't install it and run the engine to find out that it is binding.
You only need to find out why the alternator is not turning freely when assembled and correct it.
You are now implying that the fan is binding against the backing plate. I haven't had one of these apart in a while. If someone can get a exploded assembly picture on here and you point out where things are binding would help. |

| First check to see if that spacer ring is on the shaft behind the pulley. You may need to go back to where you purchased the new one and get it off your old alt if you turned it in for the core charge. |

Do you have a pic (or describe) the spacer ring? I jury-rigged one from a 9/16" washer from The Home Depot that doesn't fit quite right. My pulley was rubbing against the alternator housing.
