Well, another update with a small project. I guess once she has the airbrush in hand there is no stopping her....
Headlight rims with the Tacky Tiki Bus treatment...
Coming very soon, Tacky Tiki Bus interior lights!

Okay, here is the latest, a tacky tiki interior light, destined for the area between the two side windows...made from a clearance nightlight from Christmas Tree Shop ($2?), a clearance side marker light from Wal-Mart ($1), some scraps of wood, etc. Sun hit it the right way in the pic, so it appears to be lit....have another one to make, too.
More to come, even if no one is looking...

im watching, this is fun to watch. very cool the random little things that will eventually all add up and make one cool themed bus keep up the hard work. _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

A couple more quick projects....the parcel trays have been done quite a while, we disassembled them and replaced the netting...not really tiki or tacky...
...but this may be both...a mock up of my recently painted bumpers and the previously seen headlight rings....
More to come, of course, some doosies planned....

Well, I will probably start to lose some of you here, but is has been Spray-Bomb-O-Rama lately...what you can see is what is finished...Rustoleum 2x paint, gloss white over grape...looks better in the picture than it does in person, but hopefully it will serve the purpose of having the bus less than six shades of blue, and being easily repaired as I work on a multitude of rusty areas, dents, scratches, old bondo, etc. 5 cans of white for the top, 1 can for nose, 2 cans for the side.
More to come, including tiki graphics, more silliness.

Well, here is a big update...hold on, it is getting Tiki...er, tacky?
Front seat covers, recycled denim/fabric, the talented one made the patterns, sewed and decorated these, not quite upholstery, but a great fit...
And on to the exterior...murals front and rear, thanks to my wife and the airbrush...tropical foliage stencilling along the roofline, not perfect, but it is pretty cool, really. We took it around the neighborhood for a spin and some guy literally yelled to his friends, "Hey, look at that!!!"
Still more to come...

This... is.... AWESOME. Chiming in a little late, but awesome job on the kick panels. I tried cutting out my own but I could never get it "perfect" enough. It was always a little to small, or wasn't curving the the body lines as I would like. Ended up buying some ABS ones after my many failed attempts, so props to you!
Wifey has quite the way with that air-brush!
Logan.

Okay, a couple of quick updates...Originally secured my headliner sides with Velcro, which eventually failed, so here is the fix.
And here is a mock up of some very Tiki, well, tacky interior decoration...
More to come.

Stuart, Logan, thanks for the encouragement. It has been interesting just watching people look as they drive by when I am working on it...may try to make a local show/cruise before the weather turns...

I saw this guy's headliner, http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=548969&highlight=tiki
and I had to update mine (made from home depot bamboo blinds 72x72 does middle panel, don't know if the 84x96 will do both, but price is almost same
this shows old reed fencing and new bamboo window shade, new is cleaner, not so tiki maybe, but ....
thinking bamboo floor now
new jump seat from driver's old seat with subwoofer
I just can't stop now _________________ 71 deluxe, 1968 type 1 engine rebuilt, 009 distributor, pertronix module, Empi 38 EPC / DGES carb |

That new headliner looks great. I tried the reed fencing myself, and it just wasn't to my taste...I also find it hard to stop, one thing leads to another idea, etc. The only thing that slows me down is winter in NJ...Love the tiki masks/bamboo trim, but I guess I would...
More to come soon.
