Someone on here actually did this. You'll have to do a search, but it's here somewhere. _________________ Everything known to man has been written.

How did you get the wheels to fit? Did you redrill your rotors/drums? Any problems/issues?
Or just bolt on? |

I have 17x7.5 rims on mine. With 215 50's on the rear. No mods!! Well, I had a 5/8th's inch spacer made for my rear disk break set up. Of course I only have about 1/4 of an inch for clearance on both sides. So you shouldn't have any problems. _________________ 66 Ghia (German Look) Under construction |

How's that possible??
7.5" rims?? I thought that's waaay to big to fit? I've heard of people with 5.5" rims not fitting (in these threads, an owner put chrome 5.5's on and the rears were rubbing).
Do you have photos??
I want to make a 'new' look Ghia, it's a 71 Vert, so I figured it wouldn't be too horrible to have newer style rims, lowered, and some simple newer 'ricey' mods (maybe). Kind of a cross between a rice-mobile and Ghia (I think I'll just stop at the wheels) |

I don't have picts. I put the CB rear disk break kit on it. I have the short swing axles. The offset on my rims is a big one. The rim is accually 8.5 inches wide. The mounting area is 6 3/8 of an inch in. so the face is only 2 1/8th inch out. That is less than what the 5.5 chromes stick out. I was going to convert to the long swing axle, because it was 1 inch wider. But, that would have put it into the fender. So I had a spacer made for the wheel. I had a friend in high school (10 years ago) that we barly could fit 165's on his 72 ghia. I thing the swing axle has more room han the IRS.
The body is off the car right now. I put the rear disk kit on. Then mounted the wheels. I set the body back on the car. Then I moved the whedown in the wheel well to see if it would hit. It doesn't!! I guess I forgot to tell you that I removed the tortion bar first. then put the plate back on. This way i could move it up and down freely. Also my ghia has never been hit in the rear. That helps alot when you need tire clearance. _________________ 66 Ghia (German Look) Under construction |
