I've been socially-engineered in a similar fashion, so I feel for him.
You walked away happy with your money and it was a mutually acceptable transaction with no gun to the head involved.
This seems to be the universal flipper defense, but under what circumstances would this not be acceptable? Let's say he talked your grandmother into selling her house for $20 on a cock-and-bull story that it is situated on an Indian burial ground? Senile old Grams is happy with her $20 - is it acceptable then? Bernie Madoff's clientele seemed to be happy with the deal they were getting, so it's all cool, right?
I do a little buyer research now when I'm selling stuff. If I don't like what I see, I don't even answer the email. On top of that, I bump up the price to fend off the flippers. Maybe that lowers me to their level, but when you see rare parts that were socially-engineered out of you on someone else's swap table, it hardens your heart a little bit. |
yes. I will buy low and put it on my swap table the same day, but I don't lie about it, or lie about my intentions.
I see a part, I ask the price. I pay it, or offer less, no sob story.
People that make up sob stories about how they just need that one piece to finish their car, etc, and then put it in the classifieds or at their swap spot get the big FU from me. It's happened to me. off the top of my head, I don't think I've seen those people at vw shows any time recently, probably burned all their bridges and got stuck... |

I think it was.. and I was just making a joke because when he came over he was stoked on the rack. Me thinks it's prolly on the parts section of classifieds here on The Samba (few extra bucks). _________________ ~Christian |

I was selling a '66 Bronco back in the day for $900. This guy gives this long detailed story about how his Dad took him fishing in a Bronco just like that. He was gonna fix every inch of it, restore it to perfect, but he only had $800. He stopped by everyday for a week to tell me all the memories he had from a Bronco like this, finally I said $800 would do it.
(No one else was calling or looking at it.)
Shortly after he bought it, a truck and trailer from another state pulled up, he had already sold it to this guy.
Funny thing is there were 9 $100 bills in the envelope he gave me, so I was happy!! |

I think we all had our share of bad business dealings. Logic would dictate , that once you sell something, the new owner may do as he pleases with HIS property. No one is questioning that, the method of acquisition is what we are discussing here. I had an As*h*le buy a pair NOS ashtrays from me, he wasn't pleased with the deal he thought he was getting and me being cool, refunded his money instantly expecting my items back. Well he kept the one he wanted and returned the one he didn't, the sale was as a set and he refused to send me my items back. Oh well, live and learn. _________________ Cancer, You have claimed another beautiful life, but You will be defeated....

Capitalism doesn't involve fabricating a sob story to get a better deal on a car, that's called scamming, hustling, lying, being a douche bag, being a crook.... Capitalism is just buying the part/car at a good price and being able to flip it for profit, absolutely nothing wrong with that. Throw some dishonesty in there and it completely flips the script and now your dealing with a scammer, much like those Nigerians with the emails about the $130,000,000 some king left to you in his will kind of scammers.
I'm old school, if I look you in the eye and shake your hand we have a deal and I will not go back on it. I have to remind myself constantly that most peeps nowadays are not like that and will say and do whatever they need to so they can come out on top. _________________ http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y163/chucky1974/ninja.gif

Ok, I had to remove a couple posts as we are getting into some personal attacks as well as this being basically a "Whine," and we already have a whine thread for those sorts of things.
I think supaninja summed it up nicely so I'll leave it at that.
