Should there be a washer or spacer between the generator pulley and generator? I replaced my pulley with a chrome pulley and it looks like its going to rub on the generator a bit. I recently rebuilt my engine and noticed a very faint whining sound. I'm thinking it might be the pulley rubbing on the generator.
Where it would be running is not on the outer lip. It's the edge of the hole that the shaft comes out. Maybe 1 mm or so of the pulley rubs on the edge of that hole. A washer sized just right would keep it off the generator. |

If you bought the cheap chrome pulley your going to hate it in a pretty short amount of time. Besides rubbing, the chrome ones get loose come apart and destroy the keyway. There may be some better non stock pullys but in my opinion the asian made chrome ones are just junk.

So the answer is yes, it does rub and, no, its not supposed to. I guess I'll be switch back to the original. I do like the way it looks. Maybe I can powder coat the original.
I'm really starting to gather that my source of parts is crappy at best. Too bad. It was the only local place with any classic VW parts. I'm learning to shop around a little better now. |

Yeah I know what you mean! I try to support my local businesses but all they will get is empi. And then when you ask them to order anything for you it takes four times longer than if I just ordered it online myself. So now I don't even bother checking with them for anything... _________________ 61 ragtop, 12 turbo beetle |

I know CB. preformance sells one and I'm sure some of the other Samba vendors have better than that cheap after market chrome pulley but I just went back to the stock black German made pulley and threw the chrome ones in the trunk. |

Learn from other peoples mistakes instead of your own, it's cheaper that way
I've gone for a CB billet pulley now and can't fault it. |

Sorry, should've said... That was a bugpack spin true for the same sort of money as the CB one. |
