I'm moving from the bay area back down to LA. All my stuff is going before me so I want to do a 3 or 4 day drive down the coast in my rail buggy Smile
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I'd like to compile a list of mechanics and vw parts stores between SF and LA near the coast in case I have any problems. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

How did you get that registered in CA. I have a feeling that you will get pulled over quite a bit especially as you near LA. A friend of mine had to put mudflaps on his Baja because he had too much tire showing. Good luck though, dress warm if going down the 1, and keep us posted.

thanks guys! That list is helpful though hopefully I won't have to bug a stranger!

Wow that cruise looks awesome but my timeline can't change unfortunately. I am going to steal a couple of their pit stops though. Smile

The buggy was registered special construction by the builder. I've driven past cops a lot and the only time one ever talked to me was when i ran out of gas in a red zone Laughing

What year it your rail? How much does it weigh?

Fenders and Mudguards

27600. No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread.

This section does not apply to those vehicles exempt from registration, trailers and semitrailers having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds, or any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds.
