I wonder if you can remove the spring from the strut and use a new shock insert and create a mount for the bag off the body that will line up with the lower control arm. I'm sure this is something you will have to do yourself rather than aftermarket. _________________ 79 super Vert

I thought about fab'ing a mount to replace the spring with a bag itself and put 2 shock attachments in a \/ shape with the bag in the spring area... not sure just pondering it |

I have a 72 super that i toyed with the idea of putting on air and just gave up. You can get bags that slip over the strut housing but just like the wide stock coil spring the bags diameter will limit you to stock width wheels. airkeweled did offer what looked like an air cylinder but I can't seem to find it on their sight now. it was like 450 bucks for them though, not worth it IMO. |

You gotta have teh strut to keep teh spindle aligned. There is room inboard of teh strut if you use short bags. The further in you go the less bag travel you need. _________________ 79 super Vert

I've been into airride on vehicles for many years, mostly mini trucks, and that airbagit.com company has a very bad reputation for selling crap that does not work as described. Listing a 70 super beetle and even showing the later style 2 bolt struts for the early supers kits, I would steer clear of them.
something like this is what you need
http://store.kreepinkustumz.net/66.html
even then you may have to rework the inner fender for bag clearance. |
